Basic versus bougie rice krispies treats hey guys it’s zhang and today i’m going to be making one of my favorite no-bake dessert snacks rice krispies treats they’re a lunchbox staple and we’re going to make them really easy and kind of fancy so let’s get into it i’m gonna

Start with a pretty big pot here because you have a lot of things to put into it and i’m gonna turn it on to medium-low heat so once it gets nice and hot i’m gonna add my butter so for the butter i always love to use salted butter i grabbed the right one

This time it’s the yellow package but you can use any salted butter you have on hand it just kind of balances out the flavor and makes it not super sweet i’ll just let it melt completely and then i’m gonna add my marshmallows and some vanilla extract i’m using just mini

Marshmallows here i’ll just slowly mix everything just making sure the bottom doesn’t burn or get too um hot and i just want to keep stirring until the marshmallows is completely melted and it just looks like one cohesive white paste or cloud all right once it starts to look like

This and you don’t see any more marshmallows in the pot go ahead and turn off the heat give it another stir and then we’re gonna pour in our crisp rice or rice krispies whatever you’re using all right now i’m just going to mix it all up until our cereal

Is coated in that marshmallow mixture and it’s going to be pretty sticky so you want to work fairly quickly before the marshmallow gets a chance to harden this looks good and then i’ll just transfer into a baking dish that i’ve already buttered just so it doesn’t stick at the bottom

For something like this i like to make it nice and thick so like an 8 by 10 or like a 9 by 9 pan would be perfect the deeper and smaller the pan i feel like the better the rice krispies now if you have someone to give you an extra hand

To hold the pot just to transfer in all at once that would probably be easier but i’m just going to scoop it in a little bit at a time then with my spatula i’m just going to smooth it all out until it’s nice and flat it’s kind of sticky at first but it

Definitely settles down and you can just kind of swipe it down like this but before i finish doing that even though this is basic basic doesn’t have to be boring i’m going to add some sprinkles on top just to give it a little more flair and i try to do this

When the marshmallow is still warm just so it kind of sticks if you do it when it’s completely cooled it’s not going to stick now i’m just going to smooth it over one more time just to mix it in see now each bite is truly a treat so nate

Asked me why didn’t i just mix it in with the puffed cereal earlier um in my experience the sprinkles ended up melting and it just kind of bleeds the color all over so i kind of just like doing it on top like this it’s a little

Cleaner that way but you can do whatever you want i’m going to let this chill for about half an hour in the fridge while we make our bougie rice krispies treats all right for our bougie version i’m going to start with very similar base but add a few fun twists we’re going to

Start with our butter except this time we’re going to brown it so i start on medium low heat and i taught you guys how to brown butter in my chocolate chip cookie video and it just changes everything it makes it nutty just full of flavor if you guys want the full

Recipes for both versions i’ll have it listed in the description box below so to brown the butter i’m going to melt it completely first and then just keep it on the medium medium-low heat i try to work on medium-low just because once it starts browning it goes fast and

I want to be able to control the amount of toastiness that we give our butter so i’m just going to let it simmer until it’s completely melted and starts to bubble browning butter is basically just toasting the milk solids in the butter and just giving it a lot more depth

You’ll see the butter start to bubble rapidly and then it’ll slowly and the bubbles get smaller that’s when it’s almost about to turn brown it also starts to smell so good too all right this looks golden brown perfect i’m gonna stop the browning process by adding some vanilla extract and then

Immediately add in our marshmallows now if you notice this version i’m using the jet puffed the larger size marshmallows honestly it doesn’t really matter what size you use it’s just i had two bags and i just wanted to show you the difference between the two for the jet puff one you

Can use the full bag whereas the miniature ones i just measure it out to be like four and a half cups now we’ll just let it melt all the way until it becomes like a puffy cloud this one tends to take a little bit longer than the miniature size so

Because it’s taking a while go ahead and crush that like button and don’t forget to hit subscribe to see more fun videos and comment below let me know when the last time you had a rice krispies treat because for me it’s been quite a while

But i get cravings for them all the time i love them or if you’ve never had them i hope you guys give this recipe a try and don’t forget to tag me on instagram honeysuckle so once the marshmallow is fully melted again we’ll just go ahead

And turn off the heat and add our cereal so to our bougie version i’m gonna add a special mix in to the cereal i’m using freeze-dried strawberries that i’m to crush with my hands and then just mix it all together you get different size bits

In here so that each bite is just a really good treat just mix it all up so i had nate help me hold the pot while i transferred into the pan so it’s already here and now i’m just gonna flatten it out so this looks good it looks a little

Bougie but you guys know me i’m a little extra so we’re not done yet i’m gonna add a layer of chocolate right on top with this one i just melted some dark chocolate i don’t want the layers too thick so i just added a nice thin layer on top and

Just spread it over that way it’s a little bit easier to cut too and then before the chocolate gets a chance to dry i’m actually going to press down some more freeze-dried strawberries just to decorate the top i’ll just randomly place the pieces and the chocolate kind of acts like glue

So it sticks really nicely and then the final touch you can’t get more bougie than some gold leaves i’m taking a cue from worth it and adding gold leaves on everything because it just makes it that much more expensive it’s my first time working with gold leaves and they’re so delicate i think

You’re supposed to use like tweezers for them but i don’t really have food tweezers and then just for good measure we have some gold dust i’m finding so many things in my pantry i forgot that i had this is so extra but i mean if you had a special occasion

Coming up like an anniversary or a big birthday this would be so special so it’s totally good all right so now i’m just gonna let it chill in the fridge for half an hour so that the chocolate could solidify and then we’ll slice it up All right we have our basic versus our bougie honestly they both look really good but in different ways a plain classic rice krispies treats is just so delicious as it is this would be so perfect in a lunchbox or even for snack time whatever with the sprinkles

It almost gives off like birthday cake vibe all right but now i’m gonna try our bougie i’m excited for this This is just special wow the freeze-dried strawberries on top gives it that really nice fruity kick and then obviously chocolate and then you just taste that depth of nuttiness from the brown butter this this is a special treat right here honestly i feel like even with the

Classic one you can always brown the butter and just do it very simply as it is and still get something really delicious i hope you guys are enjoying this basic versus bougie series comment below and let me know what you want to see me make next thank you so much for

Watching i’ll see you guys next time bye

  1. Rice krispie treats are my sick day snack. Any day I'm under the weather, my boyfriend makes sure to grab a box of rice krispie treats along with the medicine when he goes to the store. Love to make them from scratch when I'm feeling good too!

  2. I would like to see maybe some cake or cupcake of this series 🥰 with all this nice edible gold sparkling and roses hahaha 😂

  3. The American Heart Association recommends that healthy adults consume <1500mgs of salt per day. Add up yours. There’s a reason sodium leads to high blood pressure and that leads to the top two causes of death in the US- heart disease and stroke. Think it can’t happen to you or that you’ll address it when you’re older? So did everyone else who died. Nobody addresses it until they have a health emergency. I bet you don’t know how much you consume much less your blood pressure. Americans routinely consume more than 2-3 times the recommended amount. But go ahead and add more salt because it “tastes better”.

  4. My favorite way to jazz up rice krispy treats is to use the chocolate rice krispies cereal and mix in blitzed black sesame seeds for a nutty kick!

  5. Hi Zung, if you want your Rice Krispies treats to remain soft just add double the amount of butter you used. Will stay soft for days. 🙂
