Who am I?

A man from the USA trying to discover the world one place at a time, while sharing the experiences through my lens. I like traveling to places that are usually not first on most people’s itinerary and showing everyone that these places are worth the journey. I want to experience all the countries I visit as a member of the society but at the same time learn about the culture, food and beautiful people. Growth is not achievable without leaving your comfort zone, so just do it!

Welcome to Sintra [Music] we are on our way now to Sintra which is a  local Portuguese Village up old old village very   historical I’m so excited to show you guys and I  am with a very special person a tour guide who’s

Going to be showing me this beautiful Village  please Nidia introduce yourself hello I’m Nidia   and I’m from yes experiences Portugal and I’m the  local guide who is going to show him Sintra around   it’s a beautiful Road it’s a straight highway  down takes about 45 minutes it’s not a long ride

But I’m really excited to see this historical  Village there’s so much in store for today stay   tuned actually Sintra is romantic not only about  the romance of a couple’s Romance but also because   of the um the architecture is from Mostly from  the Romantic Era and uh it’s got always this I

Don’t know this Beautiful Romance surrounding it  yes yes this little this Vibe of romance I like   it so as we’re walking through Sintra my first  impressions is it’s magical it literally feels   like a magical land we’re talking prehistoric  it’s absolutely beautiful uh nidia please tell

Us a little bit of background as to where what  are the origins of this city or Village I guess   you can call think back to as you said to the  prehistoric times that it has Roman influence   also Moorish influence which we’re going to pass by  the Moorish castle later great you have influence

Of many different civilizations but more so the  fact that it’s maintained its roots as you walk   through here it doesn’t feel like it’s been  torn up now obviously it has become a tourist   destination which most places like UNESCO Heritage  sites they do become tourist places but it still

Held its roots and that’s what makes it beautiful  just a warning for you guys it is very hilly here   so if you are not if you’re not in shape you  will be out of breath but also be prepared to

Walk up hills and if you’re an older person you  must make some kind of accommodation maybe take   a Tuk Tok there is other ways for somebody other  way sweet Tuk TS and or with the touristic cars

In other so they don’t have to walk up yeah so  there is other alternative options for people who   might be handicapped you can still travel here  but since I’m young and free we are walking we

Decided to explore walking right now we are next  to a very pivotal Landmark here known as the Palacio   Nacional De Sintra am I right and what is the significance  of this uh palace here okay this Palace dates

Back the the more the Moorish influence it was  built as a Moorish fortress and then as the it was the governor’s house as well okay then  after the 15th century it became the residence   of the royal family the Portuguese royal family  okay up to the 19 19th century that’s when it

Was inovace there is the morish castle there oh  wow that’s beautiful so we’re going to be going   to that one as well were these a lot of these  constructed by the Moors or were they kind of

Like developed by the Moors over time like no this  was was originally constructed as a fortress as   a more Rich Fortress okay so it was done as a  custom was built as a more Rich custom so this

Architecture no but has been changing over years  changed is a mixture with Gothic Manuel in style   and with some beautiful artwork on the inside  guys before we have coffee there is something   that we have to try that’s very local to Sintra  or is it just no no it’s is originally from

Obich but it’s local in Portugal in general  like port wine you have port wine here as   well what exactly is this it’s a cherry cherry chocolate cups ah okay okay right   oh and then you eat the chocolate amazing all  right guys here I go it’s my first time trying

This that’s an intense way to start  the day but there’s no better way   better and it’s only €1 for one it’s  one of the few cheaper things left in Portugal let’s have one what is this   the takes takes back to the 13th century

It’s it’s a traditional uh pastry from here  uh and you have also the travesseiros sintra side this one   you’re going to taste both and you’re going  to tell me feel like okay perfect let’s do it which dates back the the the recipe  dates back the 19th century then this

One the 13th century Queijadas De Sintra what is this  Queijadas De Sintra and this one dates back to   13th century 13th century open it and  see how it is let’s let me try it can   you kind let’s see I I’ll give you guys  my initial taste test I’ve never tried this

M tastes a bit cheesy it is it’s cheesy right  we put the recipe then it’s definitely cheesy   the outside if you look at the outside of it  there’s like a cracker almost like a biscuit

On the outside so it’s a bit of a harder shell  but on the inside it’s nice and soft has taste   of cheese cinnamon pumpkin different kind  of spice flavors but does have a hint of   sugar as well very very nice and very very  authentic to Centra and then this one this

One looks interesting this is the I can’t  say this name travas trra and this is also   local to is a puff pastry okay filled with  almond cream oh watch out it’s a puff pastry   filled with almond cream guys look at this  I’m such a sweet tooth this is like I’m in

Heaven wo now that is a sweet sweet dessert it’s  full of sugar but it actually still feels like   it’s a healthy dessert because it’s light on the  inside it’s like a flaky kind of crust so it’s

Not like a thick bread uh a lot of past pastries  in uh Portugal are very like light so you don’t   get full eating pastries like back in America  the pastries are like so heavy you eat one of

These you’ll be full but here in Portugal you  definitely feel like I can eat like three of   these if I want to but I got to wash my weight  because it’s very flaky the dough is very flaky

Not heavy the heavy dough yeah mhm I like that  it kind of gives you room to to eat more which   is what I like to do inre some cappuccinos  of course you have to have your coffee guys

There is no day in Portugal without Cafe so  here you guys call the in lisbourne area yes   the ca the cafe instead of asking for a cafe  a lot of people used to ask for because it

Means b i c a b IA and so the b stands for for be  drink be means to drink yes and the I the I is to   this drink this the C Kong Kong with with Kong  means with for those who you don’t know an a a

Sugar sugar with sugar drink this with sugar drink  this with sugar yeah so there’s no coffee without   sugar and I know there’s people that drink coffee  black and without sugar I think you guys are crazy

We are having sugar you need to have sugar not  a very healthy thing to say but a little bit of   sugar never killed you you know so we’re actually  driving up to the palasa pal pal which is uh I’ll

Explain to you that in a second but as we’re  driving up this hill it’s about a about a 20   minute drive from where we were on the base uh if  you don’t have a car and you walk it it would take

You way too long so it’s better to get somebody  who has a car preferably a tour guide preferably   Nidia to to drive you up and then that way you  can actually uh come up here in a quick time

Also as you’re driving up it’s so beautiful it’s  so enchanting so many trees Greenery and some of   the castles and and houses and Estates that you  see along the way are so beautiful because this   was actually a place where the royalty actually  even along the hill royalty not the main royalty

But the the no the royal family used to live  here and also then the nobles with money all   all of their cabinet yeah yeah so as you drive up  along you see a lot of beautiful houses but so as

You enter this Palace area it’s almost like  you’ve entered a different world it becomes   much quieter the air is definitely more crisp  up here and I think a lot of it has to do with   the amount of greenery and flowers and plants  and just botany that’s here and niia you were

Explaining to me before about why there is is so  much prevalence of different flowers and plant   life here and why is that okay so the P Palace  was built by Don Fernando the 2nd and Donna Maria 2nd

II on the 19th century and he was exactly so the  the king himself was a Bist so he uh there are a   lot of different plants and trees from different  countries exotic usually he brought them over he

Brought them here the ones that he knew that would  survive in our weather very and um so it’s a blend   it’s beautiful it’s very unique definitely you  feel that when you walk through here like it’s   it’s a very unique feeling now is like plant  life and flowers and this thing is something

Is that like something that the Portuguese people  in general take pride in of course gard and all   of that do you think that stems from the King  bringing it here and having this culture here   could be could be so the origins probably come  from that you do see a lot of greenery around

Portugal as well and it’s nice because for as old  of a country is it is actually the first nation   in Europe yeah guys that’s a fact that I’ve left  out actually this is the first oldest nation in

Europe and a lot of people don’t know that so  there you go see don’t say that you don’t learn   anything from me as you walk through this Castle  it’s so vast I mean you look there’s like a side   here and then a whole another backside here  but the architecture definitely you can see

From the tiles it has the Portuguese influence  of course and then from the The Arches on the   castle on the top there you can definitely see  the moish influence as well so it kind of has

The best of both worlds am I right you’re right  one thing that I can definitely tell you about   the Royals is they knew how to pick property  they knew exactly what they were doing they   did not miss when it came to picking location  cuz they literally had a whole view you can see

Lisbon you can literally is that Lisbon over there  can see Lisbon kashk sintra you can see it’s all   around it’s all around can see the sea as well so  they had a view of everything here you have a sea view

Look wow look at this man I mean it just goes  on forever see Invaders coming from the sea you   could see everything so was very strategic that’s  why the Mish built it the Mish built Mish Castle   there and then the royal family came living here  so it’s strategic strategic but let’s be honest

Very beautiful very beautiful so the Moors  were obviously Muslims from North Africa so   when you walk through here you definitely see a  lot of Muslim like Islamic architecture as well   like these domes that you see on a lot of on the  top of a lot of mosques you see a lot of those

Curvy domes as well so there’s definitely that  Islamic architecture that you see in a lot of   cities that were either conquered or founded  by Muslims so after a long walk up and down   mountains and Hills and Valleys we have worked up  an appetite so we’re going to stop and get some

Food from a very local restaurant here we came a  little bit away from the touristy area right we   drove a little bit out I want to give you guys a  little bit of a local experience as well so here

We are at a restaurant known as Restaurante Adas  and we’re going to go try some local food here Ines she says it a lot nicer than I do this way this way so this is the authentic Portuguese experience  here sitting in a restaurant like this and what is

The meaning of Adega because I hear this word  a Lota Winery Winery sell Winery it definitely   feel has that Sellar kind seller feeling now when  people go out to eat in Portugal is it common for   like families to come to restaurants like this  very so like when you were younger growing up

Yes all the time is what you guys would and but  all the time and is you can see this is a very   typical restaurant with a lot of space a lot of  tables yeah yeah accommodate a lot yes that’s very

Typical we going to have to the duck rice duck  rice and the C okay so duck rice is so both of   these dishes are very common all the dishes with  cfish are traditional they’re tradition and uh the

The price is also it’s a basic as I was telling  earlier how do you how do you say the dishes in   in Portuguese yeah the price [Music] is and okay  and I tried bakala yeah but you tried Bala abash

Abash and this one is with Bal with cream see  guys this is why you need Nidia she will give   you the real experience so this restaurant is not  in the touristy area I’ll give you the breakdown

I I’ll get the I’ll put the address and stuff  in the description but this is a real authentic   experience now I don’t know if you know but like  were are these restaurants also here for a long

Like these have been here from a long time like  this you could tell by the architecture has been   here for a long while okay very nice so this is  like a real authentic experience this is actually

A gentleman who is the owner of the restaurant  what’s your name austo austo and how long have   you your family owned this restaurant 24 years  24 years and you were asking him a little bit uh   I didn’t understand no he was saying that he  used to all these painting paintings that he

Painted in I make you made I don’t learn because I  don’t have school okay I start working very young   in 1980 1980 1980 like this little and and I  go work now now I am a child now I like the

Painting and but your heart is still young  that’s say how did if you can ask him maybe   how did he learn about painting how did he get  into it uh uh you have a story he came here two

Old guys okay he sit in that table you see one  guy old guy over there uhhuh you have other guy   over there they died too they only died okay and  the other guy said to me AUST this guy is artist

I say yeah artist yeah and I take a pen here  and I give it to him you are artist you make a you the guy make one yeah nice and all the  days all days I have dress for him like this

Wow and I said to him one time I go start to  painting he say to me a yeah you painting with   everything like this with this with this all  everything is pain painting like this yeah I

Make with the the the ends yeah you know yes very  nice so you take real life object and you make it   painting yeah uh when did you start painting  uh 2003 13 wow I make I make 600 paintings in

2 years and I st it’s passion or you make money  also no I don’t sell it’s passion it’s passion   because when the first I make I cry I don’t  know what I go make and I know I want to make

And then don’t make yeah but next I going to make  make make you just let the idea come yeah I happy   happy yeah very happy very nice you look very  happy yeah many people come here and say AUST

I like your paintings yes it’s good for me this  is like a cfish this is a cfish cuttlefish that   I told you that is traditional region which  is Southern Lisbon first you got to put some

Lemon on it put some lemon like this so squeeze  some lemon on that babe all right and take a   piece look at that now one thing I I already know  before trying the food is going to be good here

Cuz the guy who owns this takes so much pride  in it and it’s such a beautiful thing to see that it melts in your mouth it melts in your  [Music] mouth so simple just a fried   codfish but no no cutle cutle cuttlefish I’m  sorry fried cuttlefish all right guys look at

This duck rice look at how tender this duck  meat is now it’s been a while since I’ve had   duck meat I think the last time I had duck  meat was when I was in China and Beijing is   known for their pecking duck let’s see  how good the Portuguese duck is though

The duck looks so cooked to Perfection  with the rice it’s all cooked in the same [Applause] broth oh my god oh my god wow um speechless  it’s amazing usually duck meat is a little

Bit more gy but this one is like tender and it  has a little bit of dryness to it so it makes   it like enjoyable like lamb or beef and the  way it shreds apart into single pieces look

At this it’s amazing when the audience watches  they’re like I can tell from your face if you   like it in Cas do you like it they they can see  it from my face I is it recorded yeah yeah they

Will see it keep watching he’s enjoying it yeah  I really yeah which fish is this uh se s yeah is   this one yeah lot of local fish yeah we cat  here this is okay you got to be careful with

This one cuz it is very bony and I’ve had some  very bad uh experiences where I’ve choked on a   fishbone so that’s very bony sardines are very  bony these ones are big you can see straight

Away no this one has big bones don’t worry but  I’m just feeling like how tender [Music] and oh   man you know when you said that there’s no other  fish like this when I taste it I understand now

You believe now I believe you yeah the owner was  kind enough to bring us some dessert as well oh   what’s the name of this Basha this one is Bash  and dart Dart yeah very nice and this a local

Remake here although I’m very full but he was so  kind to bring me it would be it would not be nice   if I didn’t try I’m just kidding I’m just being  selfish you know look at this I don’t know what

This is B it’s cookies bla Maria Maria cookies oh  Maria cookies in coffee oh it’s dipped in coffee   that’s where it gets the color and then it has  a cream cream yes not whipped cream sorry this

Is with butter M buttercream M yes try it I  know I don’t know how it tastes like but I   can taste it’s really good even though I’m soap  full it’s still really good and this one is this

One looks like a fruit like a dried no this is  the egg cream egg cream M I’ve never tried this   this looks interesting a lot of col desserts  have egg cream yeah I noticed that and cheese mhm face you got hied

You want a coffee uh no yeah that one see  I told you my face says it all it’s not   my favorite it’s very thick I me taste to see  what is talking with that’s like a very thick

Consistency you know it takes a lot to you  like it I like can l in in mixed with the   cake yeah too much it’s too heav heavy like  one bite but the other one this one is really   good mhm but overall the meal was amazing  guys no better way to to experience local

Cuisine no no we have to go more look yeah ah  okay that’s reverse you see what are you doing okay now this is first am I right no no now now  it’s not so strong now like this like exactly okay

Ah okay cool now we have look guys of driving  in Portugal so this is something that you can   do if you come here rent a car we going this way  yes okay just make sure there’s no okay here we

Go there it is see I told you I could drive  this stick [ __ ] see this girl thought that   cuz I’m I’m American I don’t know how to drive  a stick shift but I’m not a typical American you

Know I learned he’s driving it look the car is  moving and he’s not moving weirdly he’s actually normal actually as you just saw me I was driving  cuz my tour guide was kind enough to let me take

The wheel um I’ve got insurance such a she’s got  good insurance so actually the drive up here was   so beautiful and right now we are actually at a  place called what Kaba the most western point in

Continental Europe it’s the most western point  in Europe guys and it is so beautiful I I feel   like everything just keeps getting more beautiful  as the day goes on and I set up a music for him

Yeah she even set up a whole musical band for me  like she rolled out the red carpet look at [Music] this I have never experienced I’ve experienced  beautiful beaches beautiful Waters beautiful   rock formations in my travels throughout Bali  and Philippines and all of that but there’s

Something really special about these European  Hills The Greenery the lush green all over the   mountains and then the water on the backdrop  especially with the sun setting behind us I   mean this is probably one of the most if not the  most breathtaking views that I’ve ever had and I

Think this is a great way to end your trip in  CRA come to the most Western point in Europe   and just experience the beauty I mean this is  just fascinating I am at a loss for words which

Is very rarely usually I usually I keep talking  you [Laughter] know that is my CRA tour we came   here to the Western Cape Western Cape right  most western Point um we we I mean you guys   saw everything I hope you guys enjoyed this  video and if and when you do come to Lisbon

  1. Um actually, as someone who drinks their coffee black I'm offended by your statement. I am not crazy. I am batsh*t insane.

  2. Bro , make a plan to visit South Africa . I lived there for almost 6 years, believe me you will fall in love with that country, the food ,weather, safaris and lots more .

  3. Nothing like the Mediterranean countries. This was different from your usual vlogs because you are with a guide. You didnt mention how much hiring the guide cost. It was nice video but i think i prefer you exploring on your own. Her information wasnt very detailed. A person could find this info at the sights or online. Is it worth the extra cost? The cherry liqueur in the morning seems nuts. Booze in the morning? I could swear i saw a video of you in pakistan fasting in ramadan.I was surprised she let you drive her car..a bmw. Do all guides let tourists do this😂😂😂😂😂. Looks like you found some fun Mr. Myer😊🎉🎉🎉
