Hey what’s up everybody so you know what we were craving some halal guys chicken and rice and since there aren’t any spots over here that make it we’re going to show you guys how to make it today all right let’s go let’s go all right so halal guys chicken and rice

You know they originate from new york but i know they’ve branched out to a whole bunch of other states there’s like franchises in a whole bunch of places there’s one in vegas there’s one in orlando i don’t know let me know if there’s one near you but if not

You can follow this recipe hey guys so we’re gonna go ahead and start making the white sauce i’m gonna go ahead and mix the wet ingredients first here we have one cup of mayo and i’m just gonna get that in there what’s your favorite mayo to use i like

Hellman’s door they call it best foods here in hawaii and then now i have a half cup of greek yogurt a tablespoon of lemon juice and i’m gonna go ahead and just add all the wet ingredients i also have a tablespoon of white vinegar before i add in the spices i’m just

Going to mix this real quick with my whisk mix everything you wouldn’t think it’d be good but trust me once it’s uh laid on top of that rice and that chicken and the veggies this is just a like a cherry on top all right but we’re gonna go ahead and

Just add all the spices we prepared it’s a sugar pepper salt and i have parsley shrimp And the trick with the sauce is it’s nice to prepare it first because once you let it sit in the fridge the like flavors just kind of melt together much better and then while you prepare the chicken it just has time to kind of marinate you know but that’s it

Easy just dump it all together mix mix and now we’re going to put it in our handy dandy what do you call this like a sauce bottle it’s not a spray bottle it’s a sauce bottle this is the tricky part yeah i know this is the kind of messy part um

I haven’t quite perfected it yet but you just gotta go slow i have a funnel but then that doesn’t work quite as good either oh really like it’s slow because it’s kind of a thick sauce but okay i see your technique there yeah you could always like

If you prefer it to be thinner add a little more lemon juice but i think it’s perfect as is you can adjust your liking though all right stir in the fridge we’ll see you later all right so next we’re going to go ahead and make the halal guys rice

Now this rice is so good you have to have the rice you know you got the nice bed of rice with the chicken and everything just chilling on top and then you put all the white sauce on top now the rice to me i mean to me the

White sauce is the star of the show but the rice you gotta have the rice so let’s go ahead and cook this up we’ve got basmati rice and instead of water we’re gonna use chicken stock instead just to add a little bit more flavor okay and now we have all the seasonings

Right over here so for our recipe there’s gonna be about four of us eating and a little bit for leftovers so we’re gonna make about three cups of basmati rice and then we’ve got about a tablespoon of paprika a tablespoon of cumin a tablespoon of turmeric and then a little bit of

Salt so maybe about a teaspoon of salt and you know this is already salty with the chicken stock so you don’t need too much salt but if you want a little bit of extra little a little something some add a little bit more salt too and we’re also going to

Put about a tablespoon of butter you know what let’s put two tablespoons of butter more butter mo betta so here we go we’re gonna go ahead and drop our butter on the hot pan let this butter melt a little bit first all right so next i’m going to go ahead

And toss in my rice this is three cups of basmati rice Basically right now we’re just toasting up this rice let that butter let that butter just kind of marinate just meld with the rice there let them marry each other get nice and closely acquainted and we’re gonna go ahead and throw the spices in let it let the rice toast up

All right let’s go ahead and toss these spices in oh look at the colors now you’ll see once we start cooking it this rice is going to get that nice color oh the fragrance the aroma oh that smells so good right now mmm that smell man nice

That smells good i’m gonna go ahead and continue mixing this up we’re just basically letting it toast up with the flavors then we’ll add our chicken stock here in a second all right so we’ve been toasting this for a few minutes now that these flavors have kind of

Penetrated the rice kernels a little bit let’s go ahead and add our chicken broth Oh are you clean all right so now that this is boiling we’ll go ahead and just cover it up we’re going to go ahead and reduce the heat a little bit let that simmer for about 20 minutes and we’ll go ahead and check on you later

So i was in charge of the star of the show the meat so we have here three and a half pounds of boneless skinless chicken thighs there you go i’ll show that to you here’s a good angle look at all that seasoning up in there

And then i also got some strip steak so this is about two and a half pounds and these two have been marinating for about 15 hours or so you can marinate it um for me about one to two hours but it won’t have as much flavor as overnight

So the seasonings i used for the meats so most of them were two teaspoons of black pepper two teaspoons of coriander two teaspoons of cayenne pepper two teaspoons of parsley two teaspoons of cumin three teaspoons of adobo seasoning two teaspoons of garlic two teaspoons of lemon juice and two tablespoons of olive oil

So we’re gonna go ahead and fry these babies up we’re using the cast iron tonight we typically use the non-stick at home just because it’s easier to clean but it doesn’t have that crust like you would typically get on a cast iron so it’s a special night tonight and i’m

Not going to put a lot of oil just because the thighs will give off a lot of fat on the pan anyways Guys if you have a big family get yourself a big cast iron like this one time to fry it actually this one was from i think i did i gave it to her this is from target it’s the crispy vegan um collection i don’t know if there’s taste of salad or not

Look at that it smells so good right now i wish you guys could smell this all right so it’s been about 20 minutes let’s go ahead and check the rice out oh look at that oh my gosh the aroma the fragrance it smells so good

I’m just gonna go ahead and give this a little toss oh wow look at that moment of truth you got that nice crust on there and don’t worry this is not on high heels put it on low Now we got the steak look at that Wow look at that chicken look at that chicken just glistening in my belly it’s about to get in let’s go ahead and chop this up so if you go to halal guys and they’re just chopping up all the meat that gyro meat or is it yiddle meat giro gyro you know

Let me know what do you guys call it i think that’s a heavy heavily debated question but anyway they’re just chopping up the meat you got lamb on one side you got chicken and then it’s all nice and chopped up but we’re gonna go ahead and chop the chicken up first

Oh you hear that crisp this nice juicy thigh meat oh you see that Nice morsels of chicken thighs so we saw this little trick that they do at the carts they take their pita bread well in our case we use naan bread but we’re just gonna cover up the meat like this keep the meat warm but i’m gonna go

Ahead and toast these bad boys up too so we’re gonna go ahead and just toast these up a little bit let it have a nice little nice crispy edge and then we’re gonna go ahead and plate these up here in a minute all right so everything’s done let’s go

Ahead and plate our food now look at this nice fluffy rice it’s oh man i’m telling you the fragrance from it it is so good we’re gonna go ahead and make a nice little thing of rice here on the side let’s grab some of this chicken thighs

I’m going to get a little steak too we’re gonna get some lettuce oh it’s gonna be messy i’m just gonna grab the top here here we go some tomato and then let’s go ahead and add a little chopped jalapenos and onions too oh yeah look at that

Now this has been sitting in the fridge just letting all the flavors kind of just congeal oh congeal is a nasty word just letting all the flavors kind of just marinate together over here okay so we’re gonna go ahead and add the best part it’s the white sauce

So get that white sauce all over yeah we didn’t make the red sauce the hot sauce but we just have sriracha here i’m just gonna add a couple drips all over it check that plate out I don’t know what where to dig in first look at this we’ve got that chicken that nice steak the lettuce you know that’s just for a little little extras you can get a little bit of vegetables in here yo the rice is like perfect the meat’s um very flavorful like

You taste all the seasonings like it’s been marinated for a long time oh yeah oh yeah it’s such a complete meal too with the salad the rice the bread and the meats such a complete meal it looks so nice like before you get going but

I like to just mix it all up and it ain’t pretty but it’s delicious you gotta try to get a little bit of everything um make sure you get a little bit that white sauce i like to get about white sauce with a little bit of that salad and a

Little bit of that rice i just gotta hit one of these then you want to taste it with some pita bread feels like you’re eating a little yiddle yeah i gotta roll to mars so i go to them it’s only one i haven’t been to the halal guys in new york but i

Go to the one in orlando a lot and this is pretty much the same thing um pretty much crack the code on the white sauce june i’m having a ball y’all get some more spiciness in there last time i went to hello guys i was in chicago what was that like when we

That was almost three years ago well living out here in hawaii you know you gotta figure out a way to make it since we can’t get it and this is just as good if not better i know yeah you’re gonna lie no i feel like the meat here is better because it’s

Been marinating more And you know it’s going exactly in your food because you’re making it yourself you’re not getting leftover stuff from hours it’s all fresh what did i say you can’t do this at the restaurant either they charge extra for this oh yeah you want more white sauce you’re gonna have to pay

Yeah that’s good yeah that’s why i said it at home look boom just add some more i gotta get a cook for this one i know i think i’m gonna have to add some more white sauce look at that oh man man this brings me back so

First time i had this was when one of our cousins got married up in new jersey so they took me into town we’re all chilling it was like the day after the wedding and we’re just chilling at their house and they’re all talking everyone’s talking about you haven’t had chicken and rice yet

Like chicken and rice how good can this be they were like hyping it up right i’m like come on chicken and rice so anyway they took us into town we went at the original spot there in this long line and i’m like okay what’s about to go down everyone was hyping it up

Let’s see if this actually you know lives up to the to their word but man as soon as i took a bite oh my gosh it really was all the hype and everything it was delicious everything made sense oh yeah all right so keisha is going to go ahead

And give it a try you know the cook has to try her creation too all right so i’m going to get a little chicken a little steak get all the layers in there get all the flavors look at mama dancing i think we pretty much got it no need to

Go to halal guys when’s the last time you had it with claire and you oh and chicago right yeah you before we had my um tac surgery made sure to get like this several times we were in chicago for just a few days and

We got it at least three times i had to be every day too yeah the whole time we were there and there was one right around the corner from the hotel we were staying at too let rain and try some huh yummy i think it’s raining approved raining

All right you guys so oh look green and said yay all right so guys give this recipe a try and if you do make it make sure you tag us in the pictures i want to see your creations all right let us know what you think all right if

  3. Looks delicious. I want to give it a try! It’s nice you all split up the work. Maybe my hubs and I can make it together.

  4. After seeing this video today, immediately liked the vibe your family gives. Very warming and loving people you guys seem. ( I subscribed! )

I went out to buy the ingredients. I followed your exact recipe. Marinated the chicken/beef first, then made the sauce, then rice. Couldn't wait so after an hour of meat marination, I cooked the chicken. Anyways, it tasted delicious! My sons also liked it alot!

Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. I liked how you made this recipe simple and easy to follow. Also enjoyed how you broke it down by having each family member make something. Such a pleasure to watch.

    Much love from So Cal☺

  5. I have a Halal Guys Food restaurant here in NYC. BUT.. I made yours and it was BETTER!! The only thing I added was 2 tablespoons of dry Dill and grated cucumber to the white sauce and it was Fabulous!!! You Guys Rock!! I can make my favorite food at home now!! 😁😁😁

  6. Hahaha. Sorry but wrong!!!!
I worked along Halal when they set up their carts. Halal is about simplicity/ they have no time to add all this stuff. No yogurt no sour cream. They used admiration Mayo- unfortunately admiration is usually sold in gallon jugs but for them, that is exactly what they need, large quantity. So if can get, do so.
    For testing here ya go:
    1 cup admiration Mayo
    1 teaspoon WHITE vinegar
    1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon (little more if needed for right consistency) of water.

That’s it folks. Simple, just as they need to be giving the quantity they must produce daily.

Please- no lime/lemon juice, no Greek yogurt, no sour cream, no fennel, no garlic powder- they DONT have time for all that stuff, but if all this extra is what
you like so be it. If you want halal white sauce, recipe above! Peace!

PS the ingredients listed in the little packets of their white sauce is different than what they make for the carts. So isn’t the taste.

  7. One additional step is after u cook the chicken and chop it up, add a couple tbsps of water to help scrape up and deglaze all the drippings and charred bits on the bottom of the pan. Then add your chick back in and sauté so it soaks up all that flavor and the water is evaporated.

  8. Great video. I live in NYC Halal Guys is the best, i think they use some MSG in the meat though i compensated by adding some mushroom powder a natural MSG. I tried your white sauce and its spot on just like halal guys i going to make the chicken for tomorrow can't wait to taste cause yours looks so yummy.

  9. Just askin, ABSOLUTELY NOT making a big deal of it but in order to toast the rice it has to be unwashed right?

  10. When I was studying in the us, well I was in Philly, I used to have this food every I go to NYC, and I LOVE it!
