Just look… how thick, this sauce is. Oh, my gosh, it’s piping hot! Look at that cheese! So stringy! Hey everyone, I’m Steph, Chris is behind the camera, and we’re Hungry Two Travel. We are in Puebla, a city known for its incredibly rich food culture, with many traditional Mexican dishes actually originating here.

The cuisine is steeped in history with a blend of both ancient and colonial influences that spans hundreds of years. We’re so excited to be here because we have got some delicious Poblano dishes to try today. So come on, let’s get to it. Chicken and cheese. We’re here this morning at Antojitos Tomy

For a traditional Poblano breakfast. Now, this is a super busy local breakfast shop that has been around for over 40 years now, and they specialize in all kinds of poblano food. What we have here is Molotes. Now, we got ours with cheese and chicken. And, it’s made with a mixture of corn

And regular wheat flour. So, it’s going to be nice and crispy. And, they deep fry it and, it is massive. So, we’ve got a few things on the side here to dress it with, some salsas and some of this crema, like a white cream, I’m not too sure,

But we’ve got some green salsa verde here. Look at that. Get a nice pile of it on. And we’ve got another salsa rojo. So, a red salsa here. Let’s get some of that on it. Last up. This nice, ooh, cream looking, ooh, look at that. Well done on dressing that, that looks awesome.

Thank you, I thought I’d add a little pizzazz to it there. Thank you, thank you very much. And we’ve got a nice local Poblano coffee here as well. Café de Olla, and it’s made with cinnamon. So, I think… You know what…

I’m just going to, I’m just going to have a sip right now. Ooh! Oh, man, that is delicious. You can really taste these strong coffee, that cinnamon, as well as the panela, which is an unrefined cane sugar in there. That’s incredible, mmm. Okay. Let’s look into this guy.

Oh, my gosh, look at the size of this thing. I was kind of expecting it to be a light, but it’s actually super hefty. I think, just packed with cheese and the chicken. Oh, my gosh, it’s coming apart. So let’s just break it up here.

Oh, my gosh, it’s piping hot! Look at that cheese! Oh, my gosh. That quesillo, the Oaxaca cheese, is just on another level. Just look at this. Will it ever end? I don’t know. Oh, my gosh. Alright. Put your cheese back on. Let me put my cheese back in there. Okay, here we go.

Mmm. Oh, my gosh. That is insane. The flavour of that cheese is just incredible. It’s almost like a mild mozzarella. And, oh gosh, they just know how to do cheese here in Mexico, I swear. And that chicken inside is honestly so tender, and juicy. I’m quite surprised, because sometimes, just look at that,

With the shredded chicken, it can be a little dry, but that is insanely juicy and fresh. Mmm. Ooh. For white chicken… That’s insane. That is so good. Oh, my gosh. And the dough, is actually quite thin, and I love the texture of it because it’s

Got the mixture of the corn and the wheat flour, a combination of the two there. And it’s really nice. Mmm. That red salsa is really nice, has more of a tomatoey flavour to it, than the green salsa. And the crema adds a nice creaminess to it as well.

Okay, I want to try this nice salsa verde. Just look at the colour on that. Mmm. Oh, it’s so crunchy. And crispy on the outside there. Oh, and you can just see how light that… shell is there, ooh. And that salsa verde, such a nice spice to it,

It’s got such a good kick. I’ve got to say, out of all the salsa here in Mexico, salsa verde is my favourite. Mmm. That cheese and chicken, just honesyly goes so well together. It’s honestly almost hard to see what’s the cheese and what’s the chicken, because they’re both so shredded

And stringy like that. This is such a well-rounded meal, and honestly the perfect way to start our day today. I mean, you’ve got your protein, your dairy, you’re greens, you’ve got some nice veggies with your salsas there. It’s just kind of perfect.

And I can see why people love this because it’s so tasty, and this place is so popular for all kinds of Poblano food. Antojitos Tomy is an iconic shop here amongst locals, and definitely a must visit when you’re in Puebla. Just a great way to start this food tour here in Puebla. Ooh…

I have never tasted coffee like this before. This is incredible. That was delicious. Alright. We’re going to head next door now and meet Señora Tomy herself, the founder of both restaurants. There’s another one right next door, and I’m going to try something else there that is delicious and Poblano, come on.

This is my grandmother The owner of Antojitos Tomy. Hello, good morning. Hello! Good morning. This is the owner, Señora Tomy herself. Creator of both the restaurants. The molotes were very delicious, very delicious. Thank you, thank you. So delicious. Thank you very much. It’s a… Chorizo. Oh, wow.

Oh, wow, look at that sauce! So, here we have our Chanclas. Now, this is a wet and messy looking sandwich, and I love how they just take the whole sandwich and dunk it into that tomato based sauce. So red. And, these bad boys are huge!

So, you get two full sandwiches with an order. That pampazo bread, is just just soaking and sopping with that sauce. Look on the inside there, with that delicious pollo, that chicken, Avocado and onion on the top to give it a nice, fresh spin as well.

Let’s cut this in half to make it a more manageable size. Oh, wow. Look at that there. Look at that bread. Still super soft and fluffy on the inside there as well. Spewing with those ingredients, the chicken there too. Let’s get a nice big dip of this delicious sauce

To go with our first bite. Cheers. Mmm. Ooh. Wow, the bread just melts in my mouth. It’s nice and wet, and a bit soggy, but, in like, such a good way. It just soaks up, that tomato based sauce. Oh, my gosh. That is delicious. Again, so messy, but, so delicious. Mmm.

The top of the bun, you can see there, is still fluffy. Still has a bit of an airiness to it. But, that tomato and chorizo sauce really just makes this dish. It is very, very delicious. Not too spicy, even though it was made with the guajillo pepper, which is a signature

Pepper here in Mexico. Mmm. That is so good. Tomatoey, sweet, a bit sour. And the chicken on the inside really gives it a nice flavour. And, I love the use of the fresh avocado and the fresh onion as well. Mmm. Sandwiches like this, are just so fun to eat, because,

Although it is a bit of a mess, the more mess, the more delicious it is. The sandwich has such a nice chorizo flavour, too. And you can just see there, the nice pieces of chorizo just sprinkled in with the chicken from that tomato sauce there. Such a unique take on a Mexican sandwich,

With just how it’s just dunked in that sauce. And, that’s just get a little bit of avocad and onion in there, for an ultimate… Chanclas… Messy bite. Mmm. This Chaclass and all the food here is so delicious. You can really taste that these are home cooked Poblano meals, with the recipes passed down

Generations, from Señora Tomy, to her daughter and granddaughter now. This is truly a local, family run institution here in Puebla. So, we have the whole family here. Thank you very, very much. The food… Oh, very delicious. So delicious. It is an amazing experience here. At Antojitos Tomy. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much. See you later. See you later. Bye! The historical center of Puebla City is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its spectacular colonial architecture and well-preserved grand religious structures. The impressive Puebla Cathedral dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, while the Chapel of the Rosary is adorned

With elaborate 24 karat gold leaf from 300 years ago, Full of unique baroque and neoclassical style buildings, palaces and theaters, Puebla is considered a city of great historical significance. The best way to experience the city is to wander and explore the many ancient streets, and admire the architecture

As you stroll from one tasty food to the next. We’re here at this very local antojito shop for a little snack here. Now, this is Memelas, which is a large blue corn tortilla with some green salsa verde, some cheese, queso, and some onions sprinkled on top. Super simple ingredients,

But smells and looks delicious. They are pumping them out back here as well. Customers all around here. It’s so beautiful sitting under the trees here as well. This is pretty large and hefty. It’s definitely a two hander. Look at the size of this Memela. Oh, my goodness. You can see it’s

Fairly thin, but also, it has some weight to it. And they’re all handmade right behind me to order as well. This tortilla is massive. Okay. Mmm, mmm! That is a thick tortilla. Look at that. Oh, my gosh. This also a little bit spicy. But, the queso, the cheese on the top.

Nice and crumbly, creamy. The onions add a nice crunchiness to it, but, honestly, it’s so simple. Like, I was saying, but just so delicious, the flavours. And I love how it’s handmade as well. Mmm. This is delicious. I love the green salsa as well, ooh.

You can get a whole lot of different toppings on the memelas here, like mushrooms, chorizo sausage, chicharron. But, this is the plain one, the simple one. And for 12 pesos, this is a super affordable Poblano snack. This is truly what street food is in Mexico. Mmm. Very delicious! Very delicious.

Very delicious, very delicious. Street food here in Puebla, and Mexico itself, is just out of this world. Mmm. This is huge. Right now we’re on ‘Calle de Los Dulces’, which is the candy street here in Puebla. Now, there’s tons of different shops that sell these Dulce Tipicos, which are the very traditional

Sweets that you can find in Puebla. So, I think we’re going to find a shop to go into and try some of these sweets. So… which one do you choose? We’ve chosen a candy shop that is just full of all the traditional Poblano sweets. And, Puebla is actually home

To about 300 different kinds. Obviously not going to try 300, but, we are going to try three of the most popular and famous traditional ones. One… Camotes. Thank you. And, one… Tortitas de Santa Clara. Thank you. And one… the Baileys. Baileys? Okay. Thank you. Did I hear Baileys? Sure did.

Thank you, thank you very much. Alright, let’s give these guys a taste. Got our sweets here. Ooh, so what I have here is called Tortitas de Santa Clara, which is a cookie that’s made with pumpkin seeds, milk, flour, sugar, and lard. So, look at that. It looks like, almost like a, sunflower.

And I’ve got the Camotes, which is a sweet potato sweet, obviously made with sweet potatoes, sugar, and whatever flavour that it is. So, this is fresa, which is the strawberry. And, just look at these guys. Very interesting looking. Looks kind of dry. Alright, well. Alright, well, cheers. Sweets cheers. Mmm… Mmmm. Oh, wow.

That’s delicious. The cookie part, the cookie dough. Really nice, it almost tastes kind of like a crumbly graham cracker. And the top of that is really thick, actually, like, the sweet part on top. Yeah, it’s almost like a… Icing sugar, to be honest. The taste of it.

I don’t taste too much pumpkin, or like, pumpkin seeds. Yeah, yeah. But, it just tastes kind of sweet. Hmm. That’s a delicious cookie. Well, I have to say, my sweet potato sweet actually really does taste like sweet potato. It has the texture of a sweet potato. It’s super mushy. Look at that.

It’s actually sticky. Not dry. Like you were expecting. It’s actually quite sticky. And the strawberry is really flavourful, actually. Interesting. Very sweet. But, it’s interesting and kind of weird because… Well, when you eat it, it’s like peanut butter. Sticks to all of your mouth. But, it tastes like sweet potato.

But it tastes like the strawberry, but it’s also a very sweet potatoey. Hmm. It’s like a sweet that’s not too sweet. Now, don’t forget, we actually have a third sweet to try. Ooh, yes! Put my cookie down. Looking forward to these These are Borrachitos, which actually translates to to little drunks in Spanish.

And they’ve all different kinds of alcohol flavoured sweets, it’s just corn starch, sugar and any kind of alcohol, from mezcal to cognac. And of course, you had to go with Baileys. Those look delicious. Let’s get these puppies open. Look at these little guys. It look like little… drunk bullets. They smell like Baileys.

Should I just pop it right into your mouth? There you go. Ooh. Yeah they are like little alcohol bullets. They do smell like Baileys. Oh, my gosh. Algiht. Cheers. So squishy. Mmm. Ooh. That is so mushy. Mmm. Wow! Super strong taste, of Baileys. I’m pretty sure there’s… Definitely Baileys in them.

That is boozy. Yeah. It’s actually like… So squishy. Like, I was expecting it to have the texture of, like, a gummy. But, it actually just, like, smooshes is in your mouth. I don’t know how to describe it. It kind of just melts. Yeah, it’s like soft marshmallow, almost. Like melted marshmallow.

Maybe because of all the booze in there. It doesn’t, like, stick together like a sticky candy. That is delicious. These are delicious. Give me another one. Here you go. Ooh. It’s so fun trying all these traditional Poblano sweets here on the candy street in Puebla. Definitely something to do

When you’re here in the city. I just wish we had time to try all 300 of them. Yeah. Ooh,… to be honest, I just want to try all these little drunks. Cheers. Mmm. So boozy. We’re really excited for this next place. We’re going to be trying the signature dish of Puebla, Mole.

Come on. Fonda de Santa Clara has been around since 1965. Here, they specialize in traditional dishes and the classic flavours of Puebla, all the while preserving the local culture through its traditional atmosphere. Mole is an ancient, traditional dish that predates colonial times. This Mole Pblano is made with ancho and mulato chilis,

As well as coco or chocolate, garlic, onions, raisins, banana, nuts, peppercorns, unrefined cane sugar, and even animal crackers. Spicy, savoury, and sweet all at one time. This is a sauce like no other. Mole is very complex to make. There are many stages to making the sauce,

And it can take anywhere from two to three days to complete, depending on the ingredients used. Mole is traditionally made with 20 to 50 ingredients, with chilies and coco being the most important of them all. Here in Puebla, it’s referred to as Mole Poblano, and is the highest quality

Mole in the whole of Mexico. Mole is traditionally served with turkey or chicken, with rice on the side and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The rich dark colour of the sauce is unmistakable. As the signature dish of Puebla, Mole Poblano is a taste of the culture and history of the region.

We’ve got our Mole Poblano here, and we got it with this huge chicken leg, and… Oh, my gosh, I can just smell how rich that sauce is. And it’s just so traditional. They were explaining how they make it. And it is just all by hand. Takes two days. Can you believe that?

Alright, let’s just dig in. Just look… how thick… this is sauce is. Look at that. It just sticks to this fork there. Oh, my gosh. Ooh, oh my gosh. That is so tender. Look at that. Just look how thick that sauce is there. Oh, my gosh. That is just incredible.

The flavors are just… so complex. You can really taste the deep richness of the chocolate. But also, those mulato and ancho peppers are just, give it a little bit of a kick, but it’s actually not too spicy. Just a little bit of flavour to it there. And, all the other ingredients

Honestly, it’s like you can’t even just pick out one because there’s just so much going on there. It’s like a little flavour explosion in your mouth. That is just insanely delicious. And that chicken, the dark meat, my favourite, of course, is just so rich and juicy. It’s just been cooked to perfection.

Let’s get a little bit of this rice here with it. Such a nice orange color from the tomato that’s added to the rice there. Mmm. Mmm. It’s nice with those veggies too, the peas kind of pop in your mouth. Ooh, but, honestly, the flavour of that Mole Poblano, is just on another level.

They were saying some of the Mole’s can be quite spicy, but the Mole here in Puebla, is actually quite sweet. And there were quite a few ingredients there that add to the sweetness, like the sugar and the cookies. I can’t believe there’s cookies in this sauce. That’s kind of crazy.

And the sesame seeds on top give a nice little flavour to it as well. Wow, honestly, I’m just speechless. Like, this is such a traditional dish just steeped in history. And it just goes back hundreds of years. I can see why this is something

That you have to have when you’re here in Puebla, because it is seriously the signature dish here. Like, oh, my gosh. Mmm. And that chicken, is the perfect meat for it, just goes with it so, so well, wow. Oh, I almost forgot that your Mole here comes with a side of torta,

The Mexican bread, as well as tortillas. So, we got to make sure we make a little bite of that as well. Get that. Little bit of the rice here. Now that… is a chip. Mmm, ooh! That’s really nice with the tortilla because it’s so crunchy, and crispy, and hard.

And, with the chicken being just so soft and tender, the textures and the flavours just actually really go well together. I love the traditional decor of the restaurant here at Fonda de Santa Clara. It just seems like you’re stepping back in time. And the name of the restaurant

Itself is a nod to the Santa Clara kitchen at the Santa Clara Convent, where a lot of these very traditional Poblano dishes were invented hundreds of years ago. So, you can just see how much history is in the food of this city. And I’m so glad

That we came here to try our first Mole Poblano, because this has just been such an amazing experience. And, just look, at the sesame, on this leg here, ooh. Mmm. Just incredible. I can’t get over those. Two dishes that come to mind when you think of Poblano food, Mole,

And this massive sandwich that we’re about to eat. So, let’s head into the Mercato del Carmen to try it at a local favourite spot. So we’re here back in the kitchen of Cemitas Las Poblanitas, and they are making a whole ton of Cemitas, that legendary Poblano sandwich that we’re here to try.

These sandwiches look huge. There is probably hundreds and hundreds of them that they are just pumping out. And, we were just giving a sample of these special Oaxaca string cheese here, that they put all over their sandwich. Look at that. So stringy! This looks delicious. Oh, my gosh.

It’s like, a delicious mozzarella, stringy mozzarella, like a cheese string, but so fresh, so cheesy. Ooh… So delicious. And they fill, the Cemitas sandwich with this cheese, along with a lot of other ingredients. This is an experience here. And… I just can’t believe how many sandwiches they are pumping out behind me here.

We have our monster of a sandwich, Cemitas here. Now, just look at the size of this sandwich. It is massive, overflowing with all of the delicious ingredients that they put on. We also have a side of pickled veggies and beef tendon here, like beef cow leg tendon, which looks really interesting as well.

Okay, let’s see what’s inside this Cemitas. Look at all of those ingredients there. So, we have the Cemitas bun, along with avocado, the pork cutlet here, chipotle peppers, some onion, as well as a green herb called the papalo. And a whole time of queso cheese, the Oaxaca cheese, and ham as well.

Cemitas actually refers to the name of the bun that’s used, the sesame seed brioche like bun here, but, it’s also the name of this delicious sandwich. This is Poblano food, such a popular sandwich here in Puebla, and especially at this location here. Mmm. Wow. That is a flavourful sandwich. So many fresh ingredients.

The avocado that quesillo cheese, the pork cutlet. And the bread, is just so fresh and crusty as well. Just, an unbelievable flavour bomb of a sandwich. All those ingredients there, are just exploding out. And I love those thin, thin pork cutlets there. You can see there about, three different pork cutlets

That you put on there, piling it high. Mmm. Nice and tender, juicy. Little bit oily as well. But, just look at this. It is just busting out in my hand here. That sandwich is huge! It’s mostly toppings, and like, barely any bun. So big. This place is known for their super, super big

Cemitas sandwiches, and really affordable as well, for 60 pesos, for all of this here. And this is definitely a huge sandwich that you can share between two people So, Steph has a have to herself because, I mean… just look at this! it’s like falling apart how big it is, insane.

One of the major flavours of this sandwich that I taste is this green herb, which is called Papalo, it has such a fragrant smell to it, and the taste, is somewhere between cilantro and arugula. It’s a bit bitter. But, with all the other ingredients, it adds such a nice flavour dimension,

Flavour profile to the sandwich. As well as the use of those chipotle peppers, to give it that nice little bite into that sandwich. And I can’t forget, the extra peppers we have here. A little jalapeno, pickled jalapeno. Mmm. Mmm. That’s really great. Wow. And let’s get this beef ‘pata’,

They called it, a try This beef tenderloin, look how white and clear, in colour that looks. Super interesting. It’s like jelly! Mmm. It’s pickled. So it’s like a pickled beef tendon there. Wow. Mmm. Mmm hmm. Goes really well with that too. It’s so nice to come to places like this

For a local experience. Cemitas Las Poblanitas Is a family run business that’s been around for over 35 years selling these delicious Cemitas. There is always a line out there, and in the restaurant, ordering the Cemitas and eating it. We can tell now why this is a local favourite

Amongst the people here in Puebla, because the sandwich is just huge, it’s amazing, it’s affordable, and they’re just pumping out these Cemitas sandwiches like an assembly line back there. Just an amazing experience here. Let’s have, an ultimate… Cemitas bite here. Mmm hmm. Alright. That’s a wrap on our food here in Puebla.

Thank you all so much for watching. The food in this city is so different and unique, and so yummy. If you enjoyed the video, give it a LIKE, give it a thumbs up, and make sure you SUBSCIRBE to our channel to join us on all of our food adventures.
