I was grinding a light roast Kona blend notoriously known for being a pain in the ass to grind, as if it were pebbles, when suddenly the top handle slipped and the entire thing fell on tile.

The top dial will not turn at all, the burrs still spin smoothly although they are stuck in a much finer setting than what the dial shows.

Is there any chance that this is fixable? Or time to move on to electric?

  1. I think it is completely broken. did you slow feed? it makes grinding easier.

  2. I’d guess the (ultra fine) thread on the adjustment ring is toast. Not much You can do about that.

  3. Use a wood block and a soft mallet tro try to hammer the housing back into sort-of shape. If it works it works, if not you need a new one.

My guesses this is aluminium so you are fine as long as it doesn’t crack and even then you will probably be fine. If the hardware inside is bent (screws, washers etc) bring them to home depo and see if they have some off the shelf hardware you can replace it with. I would be most worried about the threading on the screws since you say it burr is stuck.

Edit: The grinder will probably not be within manufacturer tolerances, but it will work. I have a 100 year old grinder that is sort of crap at my cabin and that makes perfectly good coffee.

I’d contact 1Zpresso and ask. They might be able to ship a new top ring.
