Safe to eat? 1st time growing potatoes. 3 months ago I planted some sprouted gold potatoes. They grew leaves and then the slugs munched the leaves beyond repair. I neglected that part of the garden until today and was surprised to find these in the soil. They weren’t attached to any roots.

Yukon gold potatoes should mature in 80 – 95 days, so these are right on time.

The fact that the tops were eaten by slugs doesn’t have any impact on the potatoes beneath the soil.

Potatoes are great to grow if you are subject to invasions by enemy foot soldiers. They are usually moving too fast to dig up all the tuber and ruin/steal your whole crop, they way they could easily do with, say, corn. With potatoes, your food is still nice and safe beneath the soil and you can retrieve it when they move on.
