just finished building my raised garden beds! First bed I have 4 pepper plants, parsley & lettuce mix. Second bed are 4 strawberry plants & a watermelon plant. Third bed I have 6 broccoli plants & one tomato plant. Located on the east coast of NC.

All I’ll say is… Don’t expect that watermelon to stay in the box. I had one plant (looks like you have 2 seedlings) last year and the vines were easily 20ft long in every direction.

You could probably fit some more in the first and third bed but the watermelon in the second is probably gonna be an issue

I’m also thinking it might be too late to start broccoli? I think in South East NC it might be better to do broccoli in the fall.

  4. What did you fill your raised bed with? I’m currently thinking of how to create a nice mix to put in some raised beds I plan to buy

Nice! I suggest adding some mulch to help reduce evaporation and weeds.

strawberry’s are also invasive, so expect them to spread, and try to take all the space they can

You can fit a lot more plants in those beds. I recommend looking up square foot gardening for tips.
