Just starting out trying to focus on the principles of this diet. A couple of my favorite packaged grocery store foods have always seemed too good to be true and I'd love to keep eating them frequently. For $3 I can get a filling ~300 cal tasty tub of legumes and some veggies, it feels like the perfect zero effort lunch. Is there any downside to these other than the couple grams of sugar in the black bean one? Say I were to eat one of these for lunch a couple times per week.

I think you could probably throw together a very similar dish yourself without using sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate, never mind the sugar which would be an immediate NO for me. Canned beans, chopped fresh veg, canned or frozen corn, better quality oil, vinegar, herbs, salt and pepper.

For just starting out, I’d go for it. Find out what you like and what you like to eat quantities of.

Then explore additions to it, or replacements that may pair better. Then start the deconstruction and make from scratch.

Honestly, I think it’s worth it to make big batch of it as a dupe and add a little extra lemon to extend it’s life a couple days in the fridge. You’ll be making them at like a quarter the price per portion, eliminating the sugar, and adding extra veg if you feel froggy.

Echoing others that these are easily and cheap to recreate yourself, HOWEVER I completely understand needing the convenience of just grabbing something and being on your way or having options on those days where work in insane, you get home late and just don’t have it in ya to cook up something. I’ve had both of these and they’re delicious!
