Add onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are tender, about 5 minutes. Season beef with salt and black pepper. 1 tsp Sage. 2 garlic cloves. Add garlic to the pan. 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce. 7-9 Mushrooms (optional).

Mushrooms gives the dish a ton of flavor, but if you don’t like mushrooms or don’t have any, that’s okay. just skip this step 😃. 2 Handfulls Spinach (optional). cook the spinach for another minute until it wilts. 4 Potatoes. Layer potato slices over meat. Season with salt and black pepper. Add 1 tsp Thyme.

Top with Gruyère cheese. Repeat with remaining potatoes. 1 cup / 240 ml heavy cream or milk. top with remaining cheese. 1. I made this using 1.25 lbs of skirt steak diced fine, as for a stir-fry. And golden potatoes, cleaned but skin-on. Seriously delicious!

  2. You don't need oil with ground beef. But I make a hamburger/potato/onion/bell pepper dish all in one pan. Once potato is soft, turn down to simmer and add shredded cheese and put on a lid until melted. Children love it!
Edit: I used garlic and spices, too.

  3. Looks remarkably similar to Sheppard's Pie with the exception that the potatoes are not mashed here.

  4. My favorite meal as a kid with my grandma was raw horse (ground) + mashed potatoes.
This is way better than this overcooked meat.

  5. Good LORD was that GOOD! One thing–if folks are using 70/30% ground beef instead in 80/20 you don't need the lard. And for some reason my potato slices didn't cook all the way through. Maybe my slices were too thick?? Anyway I'm subscribed now! 😸

  6. mushrooms should have been cooked seperately along with onions to brown better and release the water. also add fluid to get the fond off the pan. … for starters

  7. I just steam white rice, brown some ground beef, and then place the rice in a bowl, top with ground beef & brown gravy. Yummy and cheaper!

  8. Thank you so much for your videos. I have tried so far two in the last couple of weeks Both the French recipes with the beef. Absolutely delicious!!! I will be cooking this fabulous meal this week.

  9. Reduce potatoes to 2 diced and add 1 can coconut milk, 2 tblspns tomato paste, some garam masala, cumin, and curry to that pan and some water, boil down the liquid, and you have Keema Curry.

  10. Omg in just a little over an hour and a half I made this dish fit for a king. Here king. Here king. King,my dog loved this.😂 this was awful.😂

  11. We were broke our first married years and ground beef was cheap. We had a cookbook called "100 Ground Beef Recipes". Used a lot of them.

  12. Looks great and must get around to trying this! Reminds me of the potato hamburger helper that I used to like but that has too much processed ingredients where as this doesn’t really have any and also contains veggies 👍. Bet it be good with ground pork too

  14. Bet that be good with breakfast sausage or chorizo for a different variations like breakfast or Mexican style. I’d probably omit the worschershire on those though
