Good morning everyone this is Tony from her Homestead skills and today I decided that I would try to make a healthy snack I’ve been thinking about that for a little while and rather than having sweet treats that just put on weight I thought I would make a granola bar now

The granola bar that I’ve decided on and there are hundreds of different recipes apparently does have a bit of sweeten well it does have Sweetness in it it does have honey and it does have chocolate chips but you also have rolled oats and nuts so there’s a lot of

Protein in there and the recipe I use does have peanut butter so if you’ve got peanut allergies of any kind do not use use this recipe um I don’t know if you can use other kinds of nut Butters like almond um butter but um I’m not familiar with how peanut

Allergies you know I don’t know anyone that has any I’ve never had any issue with it myself and therefore have no understanding if other kinds of nuts have the same effect or if it’s strictly peanuts but I’m sure that any of you that have peanut allergies would know

What to stay away from anyway I’m going to go into the kitchen now and prepare what I hope is a little bit of a healthier snack than cookies or other things that you could be eating I could be eating okay well today I decided that I

Wanted a wholesome snack and I thought I would try to make some granola bars and this is once again the first time that I’ve tried to make granola bars and I checked through my pantry and I had everything I need in order to make what is probably not a complicated

Granola bars I’m sure that there’s hundreds of different recipes but uh what I’ve come up with is that I have honey and peanut butter and vanilla and I’m have mixed almonds and uh filberts here and I’ve chopped them up I put them through my uh food processor and just Cho them up

Fine and I also uh I understand that whole chocolate chips are too big so I put this my chocolate chips through the uh food processor as well probably should chop them by hand all of this but it’s done now and I also have some cranberries dried

Cranberries and these I did chop by hand so you want to get them as small as possible and I have um rolled oats and this is not the instant and it’s not the um steel cut so you want whole rolled oats here okay so I think the first stage first thing that

We have to do is mix our liquids which is the peanut butter the honey the vanilla and probably I’ll add the salt in with that mixture as well and we’ll mix that all up so let’s get to it and we want 2/3 of a cup of honey now this jar has not

Quite not quite too you know a pint jar is like two cups so we want probably about a little more than half a little less than half of that and I’m going to get something to stop the flow once I’m done probably a tad more okay but not much okay so there’s my

Honey and we want one cup of smooth peanut butter H I’m going to do this by not using a measuring cup but just try to get a cup There and that’s me with my measurement skills okay I would say that’s probably a cup and I’m going to add the vanilla extract and we want okay got my teaspoon of vanilla extract and half a teaspoon of salt that ought to do It now we mix all of this up This I’m going to add all of these in here now make sure that they’re good and mixed up so I’ve added my chocolate chip my nuts and uh my cranberries could have used my Kitchen Aid mixer for this okay that’s done now I have 2 and 1/2 cups of rolled

Oats well this is going to be fun pretty easy you just mix all the ingredients I’m going to get back to you when this is all mixed up okay she’s all mixed up and of course now the next thing is to get a loaf pan and I’ve cut strips of parchment

Paper and I’m putting them crosswise in this let see that should do it and now for the it is pretty stiff but that’s okay too Okay okay so at this point we just want to flatten this out and you could use whatever you have at hand you could use another sheet of parchment Paper I think a rolling pin would have been ideal here let’s See yep that works for me sort Of Is As long as you get it all flattened out however whatever means you have that works for you just do that this seems to work just fine for me okay perfect now we want to refrigerate this for an hour and we don’t want to shorten that we just want to make sure it gets

Nice and firm before we cut it okay so off into the refrigerator it goes okay Moment of Truth we’ve taken our granola bar mixture out of the fridge and I’m going to cut this into bars Now well that’s working out quite Nicely do I want small ones or larger ones I’ll go halfway okay as I said Moment of Truth it actually is don’t talk with your mouth full Tony M sweet and delicious I like peanut butter and chocolate and the Honey very nice but I think I’m going to

Have to be careful eating a lot of this too and paast myself okay this is Tony from her Homestead skills I hope you enjoyed this little demonstration and this recipe and if you choose to make uh these yourself feel free to try all kinds of variations of

Uh you know there are um vegan recipes available and I’m not a vegan so I stay away from that and all kinds different very different recipes that you can try so um if you’re interested um do try they’re pretty easy to make actually okay so this is 20on from her

Homestead skills hope you enjoyed this and we’ll get back to you soon

  1. Toni, Thanks for sharing. I've found that with those type of yummy things, the key is to portion it up smaller as opposed large bars. Enjoy🎉

  2. Toni, I watch your videos all the time and i just am concerned the way i hear you breath. Im a heart attack survivor and i would definitely suggest seeing a doctor. I didnt realize i was short of breath till after the attack when co workers would tell me they noticed. If they would have said something sooner, maybe the attack could have heen prevented. Just a concerned watcher. Much love

  3. Gave this a go using pumpkin seeds, cranberries, chocolate chips, 2 tbs brown sugar along with your recommended peanut butter, honey, oats and vanilla. Chilling in the 'fridge and looks like it is going to be awesome! Thanks for sharing!

  4. they look good however I can't seem to find the amount for the cranberries, chocolate and nuts need for the recipe

  5. Have the grandsons coming to visit next week! I'll be making these plus some other goodies! Thanks Toni🇺🇸🤗🇨🇦

  6. Looks good! … I wonder… if we bake them, will they be crunchy granola bars? I much prefer the crunchy ones. But these would be great for when we want to save on electric!
    Thanks Toni! 💕

  7. Oh those look sooooo good & no baking!! I like that!! If you don`t already own one..I highly recommend getting a Danish Wisk. They are awesome for mixing when ya don`t want to use a mixer..and they work great on thick batter. I only bought the long handle one..but you can get a set..1 long handle & 1 short handle. I love mine & use it a lot!! When you were mixing the honey & peanut butter..I remember growing up at grandma`s, sometimes we`d have either that or syrup mixed with peanut butter on hot fresh biscuits..so yummy!!

  8. I love honey and peanut butter or maple syrup and peanut butter mixed together and spread on whole wheat bread. I'm going to love these bars. 😁👍

  9. This recipe is similar to one that I use to make power balls. In addition to your ingredients, I also add nonfat milk powder, unsweetened coconut, ground flax seeds, and chia seeds. I don’t use cranberries. I use extra crunchy peanut butter. When all is mixed up, I wear disposable gloves and roll the mixture into balls and keep refrigerated. Yummy!

  10. I love making these. My recipe is similar to yours. To press down the dough, I use a cheap plastic sandwich bag with my hand in it. I can feel what I'm doing and no sticky fingers. I do a lot of bar cookies this way, too. Thanks for reminding me I need to do this.

  11. I lost you, I couldn’t find you & forgot the name of your channel. So? I looked up how to clean cast iron with lye & there you were!
I need to make granola! Thank you … 💕
    God bless.
