  3. I think that using butter in cake is a better flavor profile. As for the cake getting hard in the fridge on account of the butter content, why would anyone want to eat cold cake? Shouldn't it be at least at room temperature?

  4. Took this delicious cake to my dad who was on hospice. He was really eating very little. He ate it with gusto and said it was the best cake he ever had and asked for a second helping. How happy that made me! He passed 2 days later and I will always remember him when I bake this multiple times in the years ahead. Incredibly moist.

  5. My family loved this recipe and my mom decided to make it again. I am making it for a group tomorrow. It’s one of my favorites! So much apple and fall flavor

  6. How about putting the recipe in the more text? I real don’t want to listen to 10 plus minutes and have to make notes.

  7. This isn’t about this video, but if in the current era, your counter can be ruined by lemon juice and is freaking expensive AF, then you chose the wrong countertop material….your ancestors would laugh at you
    *fancy over function 😂😂😂

  8. Did this cake for 100 people at my job. Soooooo goooood ! This recipe is for sure a keeper.

  9. I made this! I couldn't use a 9×13 so I used two 9in round pans and distributed the batter evenly between the two. I would say the baking time is about 30 minutes at 350F for me. The cake is delicious. My husband loves it as do I. You have the best recipes ever. I was just telling my husband I have to buy the Preppy Kitchen cookbook!! lol it is quite sweet though so I think next time I will decrease the sugar contents a bit but that's just me!

  10. I got a pile of apple pulp from my dad's cider. I made applesauce from it, but I won't eat that much so was trying to figure out what I was going to do with it. I've decided to make these cakes for Christmas as part of my homemade food bundle. Food is too expensive these days so it's nice to save a bit of money.

  11. Love your channel. Bought your book on Kindle! Hint🔆I keep my brown sugar in a jar with a 1 1/2 “ piece of bread on top of it. Stops the formation of most clumps. Change out bread when you use the sugar. 😊 It will be hard!

  12. My mom put her b.soda in applesauce, foams up, a real science note for kids. And then into cake mix. We always, if iced, used grated orange peel, umm.

  13. For me, the ginger and allspice overwhelmed everything else. I didn't use nuts, just because I don't like them in cakes. I'll tweak the recipe next time to see if I like it. I'm probably gonna take the brown sugar out, use less ginger, less allspice and add raisins. I also didn't make any topping, because I prefer it like that.

  14. I just made my first one I’m getting to cool down to try. It’s amazing it’s very fluffy and gloomy and glamorous. 7:55

  15. Made this yesterday (without the topping). Great recipe with Dutch spice mix (speculaaskruiden)

  16. hoooooh lay toledo you have the most beautiful teeth i've ever seen wowza! great cake also, thanks for the "don't scoop the flour" tip!

  17. This seemed like soooo many ingredients to me as a beginner 👀 hoping for the best here! I’m proud of myself for having all the ingredients on hand though 😂🙏🏽👑

  18. My grandma used to make this for our birthday WAY back in the 1970s as well as mayonnaise cakes which was so delicious.. thanks for the recipe. I may make this tonight for my 57th birthday tomorrow🥰🥰🥰
