  2. Speaking from experience, those tree roots are going to grow up from under the raised beds and take them over. I have trees about 10 yards from 4 of my raised beds and they get filled up with roots constantly. I have to cut and dig out roots twice a year now. It's a lot of work

  3. Garden like a Viking claims that plants bolt not because of the high heat, but more because of the wild swings in temperature from day to night so planting next to a brick wall in the shade should provide consistent temperatures through the daily cycle. Curious to see how that works out for you. I’m sure Braska‘s in South Carolina are challenging. I wouldn’t worry about your resale go full Prigioni. reestablishing grass will be easy once you have all that good soil.

  4. I went in another direction. I currently have corrugated steel beds, and while they are strong, there are some limitations (frustrations with the irregular shape, cost, many metal products deform due to soil pressure, and it's uncertain whether they out-perform well-made wooden beds in the longterm). I've chosen to use rough cut 2×10 tamarack (larch), which is highly resistant to decay. More so than any standard pressure treated wood product. I expect 20 years out of these, at a minimum. They are very strong, won't deform, and because I've sourced the wood directly from a logger in my region, they cost only $65 for a 4×8 foot bed that's 20 inches high.

  5. The higher beds have been a game changer for me. I am going on 77 and have a bad back and knees. The high raised beds allow me to garden for much longer periods of time.

  6. The only thing I wondered with the metal raised beds is the soil heating up too much inside in the hot weather. 🤷‍♀️

  7. I made raised bed last spring basically free. I had three pieces of scrapped sectional garage door, about 250cm * 50cm per piece. Cut one of them to two pieces. Bought some corner brackets for few euros and and join the pieces with them so that long edges are 250cm and two half pieces makes width of 125cm.

Took less than hour to make, looking nice as parts are painted white with no big dents or scratches. It's made of aluminum, so it will last longer than me.

  8. Yes!! It is a brilliant idea! I bought one of those beds when you first mentioned them, their every bit as good as my birdies and vegos……and such a great idea to scoot them in between the trees!!! I love it. I have to think about just how, now, but im on it!!! I might need a few more, since they are cheap anyway. Thanks again!oh and that was so funny how you entered the video carrying your new cute beds!! Got me laughing!

  9. Got 6 of the tall ones at the beginning of the year, looking forward to getting some good use out of them. I would have to agree with your assessment 100% of how versatile they are.

  10. Dude. Central NC here. When did you put in those beets? Mine are maybe 1/3 that size both in a mound plot and in a raised bed. I believe I direct seeded mine in February during the warm snap.

  11. I practically live in a forest with red sand and no real soil. I have 5 beds in the only area with any sun. If it weren’t for these beds I wouldn’t have a garden. Northern Tool & Equipment has great sales in the off season which makes them very affordable.
Thank you for being so relatable. As many Content Creators get popular they forget about the people who are still on a budget.
    ((hugs🐕)) 🦴

  12. Brilliant planting strategy and use of space!
And huge thanks for acknowledging the outrageous pricing on the beds being promoted on other gardening channels. Thank you for the link.

  13. The tree roots will get into the garden beds in about two years. I learned it the hard way. It's a lot of work to clean out the roots, at least twice a year.

  14. The irony for me: since I bought my last big batch of lumber during COVID lockdown I paid more for my most recent raised beds than these metal bed kits.

  15. If that 3ft wide bed is as light as you show, then I am sure it will be bowing out from the weight of soil. The "better" ones have cross bracing to prevent that, I would suggest using some wire or timber across that bed to maintain the shape.

  16. Once again I shout THANK YOU. You are one helpful gardener. The effort you put into your own gardening and are willing to share the good and the mistakes is so appreciated. I followed much of your plan last year to get started and had wonderful results. I just installed a retractable hoop house. And have plans on the shade high tunnel, too. On a budget…and your plans are budget friendly. I just ordered two of these raised beds to give them a try. Thank so much❤

  17. Hi, I love your channel. How can I keep my cover in the raised garden bed when windy? The wind is taking my cover with clamps included

  18. Great video! It is actually very timely. WARNING – I have a raised bed setup in similar spot and when I was getting them ready yesterday,
I found that the tree roots grew upwards into the bed from down and it was like a web of roots when I dug up the bed :D. Closest tree is at least 8-9 feet away but she probably loved all the nutrients in the bed.

  19. I just bought 2 of these style in 6'x3' back in Feb of this year. Got one of them planted already and about to start the next one this week. Mine had two inside rods that connect both sides to keep them from bowing out over time

  20. This video was so informative! Thanks so much! I’ll keep this in mind for when I eventually get a house. If you’re looking for video ideas, I’d love to see some recipe videos showing what you cook with your produce, maybe on your second channel if you didn’t want to put it here. I have two community garden plots this season and am wondering what to do with all the veggies 🤣

  21. Seems like an awesome idea! Do you think tree root might migrate into the bottoms of the raised beds? I'm sure you will find out
