I do enjoy a chicken and mushroom pie and wondered whether I’d enjoy chicken and mushroom with rice just as much…

  1. One of the few Iceland product's I can say is value for money. I mean there's not much to get wrong, it's as basic as it gets. I'd just prefer a clean 500g.

  2. This isn't bad for a quid when you can't buy a packet of crunchy snacks for that now. Plain rice always tasteless until somethings added. Glad you enjoyed that tasty meal, without the need to splash out pareidolia paps😊

  3. What's the smallest room in the world? The mushroom. And the largest? Mushroom for improvement. I'll get my coat, too🏃. Top spots, Papps. I could add nothing to your haul👍

  4. Our opinions on food are remarkably similar sometimes mate, I must admit I added some seasoning to the rice when I reviewed this though, thanks for the mention by the way 🙂

  5. Nice choice 'The Heat Is On'
From one of your favourite movies, Beverly Hills Cop.

No banana in the tailpipe with this £1 meal. Lots of rice and not so much chicken and mushroom, but still it looks rather nice.

I learnt something the other day I didn't know. Consuming raw mushrooms is somewhat useless because our digestive system doesn't have the ability to fully break them down to get full use of the nutrients. But once cooked, they are easily digested.
    Hmmm 🤔

We have a dry packet version 'Continental' creamy mushroom and rice. Just add milk, water and a teaspoon of margarine… err unsalted butter, bring to the boil then simmer for 10 – 12 minutes.
I add a knob of butter just before serving. It makes it velvety.

    Nice review John.
    Cheers 👍🤤😀

  6. Have you tried the Bonchilli 50x seasoning powder, Papps? It turns any meal into an oral blast furnace with a few shakes. I am currently putting it on every meal.

  7. You can't really go wrong for a quid can you mate… Plus it actually tastes nice too… Unlike that awful £3.25 Tesco Chicken Chow Mein ready meal that you had a couple of days ago… It just goes to show you how cheap and cheerful doesn't always mean awful… And that those higher priced products aren't always going to taste better… At the moment i'm really enjoying the £0.85 Asda Just Essentials Spaghetti Bolognese ready meals… The only thing i would say about the Asda Just Essentials Spaghetti Bolognese ready meal… Is that their Microwave heating times need to be slightly tweaked… Otherwise most of the Bolognese Sauce disappears if you follow their longer stated timings… I have a 900W Microwave Oven… And i heat it on full power for five minutes… Then remove it and stir the ready meal… Before returning it to the Microwave Oven to heat for just two more minutes… The Spaghetti Bolognese will be perfectly cooked and piping hot.

But there will still be a little Bolognese Sauce left… However… I had noticed a few weeks ago that Asda also sell a 440g jar of Just Essentials Bolognese Pasta Sauce for just £0.47… And it contains enough Bolognese Sauce for three of the Just Essentials Spaghetti Bolognese ready meals… As i do like plenty of Sauce… So i now buy a jar each week… Once it's been heated in the Microwave Oven for five minutes… And after you've given it a thorough stir… Just pour a third of the jar into the Microwave ready meal… Cover and return it to the Microwave for just two more minutes… After two minutes remove and let it stand for a minute or two before serving… Then keep the opened jar of Bolognese Sauce in the fridge… And use the rest of the opened jar within three or four days… But there really are some pretty decent cheap and cheerful ready meals out there Papp… We've just got to get out there and give them a try pal… 👍Many thanks for the review my friend… It's very much appreciated… All the very best Papp… Cheers mate.🍺

  8. Nice review as usual papp. Bit of a munch Steve reviewed this recently and seemed to like it. At a £1.00 a pop it's worth giving it a go your not losing much are if you don't like. And by the way is wobbly a culinary term. Sounds like something Keith Floyd would say year's ago. And RIP to Dave from the hairy bikers he came across as a really nice bloke.

  9. We sometimes have tinned chicken in white sauce with rice. Would be good to try that for a change. I love chicken and mushroom. Well worth £1 and a decent portion really. Nice one Pappa 👍

  10. I think it's alright. I miss Bisto's microwave version. Think it was chicken supreme with rice. Also first time I had the Iceland one the juice burnt my throat when I was seeing if it was ready ha.

  11. Nice playing ! / Wow – so much better compared to your Chinese chow from the day before! / It is OK – for that value I would have that for sure. Mark,

  12. Good to see decent £1 meals reappearing with cost of living being as high as it is… so what if i need to add a little something to suit my taste but this looks decent
