Just upgraded from the breville SGP and loving the difference in taste from the new grinder. Was skeptical at first as to how much of a difference it would make but very happy with the new purchase. Anyone else rocking the same setup?

    Congrats!

The Specialita is indeed a huge improvement over the Breville grinder.

A few tips for Eureka grinders – new owners:
    – I find it helps to season the burrs a bit (consistency of grind size, retention and shot time). If you have a few bags of stale coffee laying around, just drop them in the hopper (once emptied of course), and run like 500g to 1kg of old beans.
    – Eureka grinders are really easy to service and maintain. Check their YouTube videos on it. I would recommend you get used to doing it early on. After that, you’ll probably need to do it once or twice a year, at most.

Also, Etsy can be a good source of cheap upgrades to mitigate any of the negatives of the Eureka series of grinder:
    – if you find the grind size knob to be lacking (or if you regularly switch coffees or brewing methods), look for the finecoar dials or similar. They work perfectly fine and make dialing precisely really easy.
    – if you want to single dose, you’ve got two options: the official single dosing kit, and the Etsy 3D printed ones. The OG kit is way sexier and the catch cup provided with it is really good, but the bellows is not the best. So if retention is your concern the Etsy ones are often better suited for that (but I find them less appealing to the eye and they often come with plastic catch cups that can be prone to static). I have both (the OG came with my Oro SD as a standard, and I have an Etsy one on a modded Crono) and retrospectively prefer the OG since I find retention to be minimal (and I don’t RDT), because:
    – get a an angled base to mitigate any retention and limit maintenance.

Feel free to ask if you need anything !

  2. I just got a specialita two weeks ago and I love it – need to buy a dosing funnel though because I find this thing messy af. Any recommendations? whole Latte/Clive are sold out of the mignon-specific ones with the little cutout. I ordered a dosing cup which may be easier anyway. I initially bought the Profitec M54 grinder and it wasn’t my favorite.
