First time posting a tasting note here. I’ve really enjoyed reading many of the notes here and I think this is a pretty unusual wine so thought I’d give it a go.

This is a Priorat that is 100% Cariñena, which as far as I know is unusual, typically they would be Garnacha or a Garnacha heavy blend. This is the first Priorat I’ve ever tried with some decent age on it too. I am a huge fan of Priorat in general, my favorite is probably the Finca Dofi by Alvaro Palacios but the 2015 version of this Cims de Porrera is also very good.

A little after opening the nose rather surprisingly reminded me of Barolo. Red cherries, earth and a hint of dried rose. The palate needed some air for the initial quite extreme acidity to calm down and then it was this really moreish mix of slightly floral, dusty earthy cherries with a very subtle hint of raisins. Really nice acidity, fully integrated tannins and a little sweetness in the finish, which lasted a long time.

This was the last bottle at the back of the shelf in a store where I was looking for something else and came upon it by chance. I fully expected it to be vinegar but it is surprisingly excellent.
