hello everyone and welcome to Sutton’s
days if you’re new here my name is Lisa
and we are all about Pantry preparedness
and one of the most frequent questions
that we get is I’ve canned it
canned it
I can’t rhubarb check out the video I
can’t rhubarb now what am I supposed to
do with it so today we’re going to make
some blueberry rhubarb pie yes we are oh
my gosh it’s for make it March it is the
collaboration for March yes it is we

well one of the things better than that
is getting all of these fantabulous

everything everything there’s been all
kinds of really great recipes from all
different kinds of home canned foods so
I hope that you’ve been enjoying it as
much as we have been enjoying bringing
it to you now today let’s get started
we’re going to do blueberry rhubarb pie
it’s so good
we’re jumping right in and we are
preheating the oven to 425 degrees I
have one egg white with just a smidge of
water in there that I mixed up together
okay we’ve got a bowl I am I am pressed
for time today so we’re using
store-bought pie crust perfectly
acceptable really good
um and we are using our blueberry pie
filling and our rhubarb so what you’re
going to need the bowl for is to put all
of this yummy goodness
into the bowl because you want to mix
these two up
pretty well right now I just canned
these yesterday they had they haven’t
even sat for 24 hours so oh nice seal oh
yes look at that okay so now we’re gonna
go in there and we’re gonna pull that
out
and oh
okay I I love blueberries so I am very
very oh the smell is amazing okay I am
very happy yes I am
I might have to go back in there and
lick the inside of the jar no I can’t do
that this pie is for our good friends
down the road
she’s having a tough day
something got into her chicken coop so
I’m making her up a blueberry rhubarb
pie yes I am because I know they like it
so you’re going to take this you don’t
want to beat the heck out of it you just
want to fold this together okay so
that’s just a great way to
mix it all up together and make sure
that your dishwasher whether it be uh
equipment or a person
gets a good workout so that’s it okay
it’s all mixed in together now we are
going to take that off to the side we’re
going to open up one of these pie crusts
this is the one that goes on the bottom
now typically I take these and I let
them sit out for a couple kind of let
them get room temperature but
not today because I want to show you
guys something fun that I want to try
out okay so that unrolls pretty evenly
and now we’re gonna see how it does in
my pad plate
it does good yes it does okay so don’t
crimp the edges or anything yet nope not
yet okay so now we are gonna take
remember that’s a quart of blueberry pie
filling and a pint of rhubarb
okay
so when that rhubarb comes in this year
you know what you can do with it
we gotta give out all that deliciousness
now if you want to know how to uh

don’t have to hunt for it okay so now we
are going to take
the top pie crust yes we are and
we are going to lay it out
lay it out there we go okay check this
out okay
not gonna lie this is my first time okay
so we’re gonna do this and see what kind
of trouble we can get into just press it
down let go let go
hold it holding
okay it’s not as easy as one would think
but try to stay in a straight line there
we go
and then
maybe it’s easier to start there we go
start from there
see there’s a method to the madness Now
You’re Gonna Want chilled pie dough for
this trust me
trust me because if it’s not chilled it
probably will not do what it’s supposed
to
let’s see if it does what it’s supposed
to if not it’s just gonna look really
pretty this way guess what it’s not
going to do what it’s supposed to so
anyway it’s supposed to let us out
but you know nobody’s got time for this
okay
so now we’re going to go around pinch
the edges
okay if nothing else what it did is make
it it made it look pretty okay
now we have a purdy product rest
I don’t care we’re going to pinch those
edges
I don’t do pretty pinched edges I don’t
even do pretty pie from the looks of it
but that’s okay
so we’re gonna pinch all those edges and
see it’s got the steam holes yay okay I
might have to practice a little bit more
with that
pie cutter that dough cutter
Okay so we’ve got that all pinched up
I’m just gonna oh there we go separate
okay
and now I’m gonna get my basting brush
and we are going to take this egg white
and trust me this is not a step that you
want to skip you do not want to skip
this okay
and you’re going to base this
all the way around all the edges the
whole top
do your do if you um if you don’t decide
to destroy the top of yours like I did
mine um be sure to cut slits in it
before you do this okay but make sure
that you cover all of that pie crust
with this egg white wash
because it’s amazing
yes it is
and you will have the most beautifulest
pie out there now
I’m gonna go that extra step yes I am my
extra step is just a Sprinkle
of sugar along the top
okay
and get it in all the cracks and
crevices there I don’t know a couple
tablespoons okay
there we go and now we’re gonna put this
in the oven at
425 degrees for 45 minutes put a cookie
sheet under it okay because if it
bubbles over you don’t want to have to
clean your oven we’ll see you when this
comes out
my alarm just went off
now it’s time to pull it out of the oven
commento be out of the way
oh okay
here we go

look at that
oh yes
that my friends that is the epitome of
make it March yes it is that is a
delicious blueberry rhubarb pie using
our canned blueberries and our canned
rhubarb I’ll link both of those videos

  1. I'm not a fan of rhubarb so I've never canned it. My husband likes strawberry rhubarb. Maybe I need to give it another try…..
