Haut-Brion for the win! Brooding bakers chocolate, tell-tale Haut Brion smoked rock, asphalt, sweet blue fruit, petrichor. Much more substantial in scale and scope vs. the Lafite. Palate coating but fine grained tannin. What a wine. Dare I say better than the vaunted 2000 vintage that I had a month ago, that preformed better than a 78 Petrus!

The Lafite is a pleasure as always; graphite, dried lilac/violets, chalk tannin, freshness and verve some cedar poking its head out.

Delas LaLa young wine, blue/black fruit, good interplay between sweet and savory, effusive aromatics. This would be a great introductory Rhone wine as it doesn’t get too weird a la Eric Texier

Clair-Dau fun wine from a defunct producer. I was excited for this as I’m a Bruno Clair fan. Bright red crunchy fruit, tannin and acid play well together. So much freshness, orange peel, cardamom, old burg funk, dried duff. This wine was ebb and flow- fun to track over few hours.

Kistler is in a good spot. Cherry Valentine’s Day sucker, sweet bbl spice, medium body and acidity, it got more Complex and better with air. I prefer the 2015 and newer Kistlers. For me the addition of whole cluster and reining in the rip was made these wines much more compelling.
