1986 Meyney bought for around $275 for a case in the 1990s- decanted 3 hours. Fruit a bit faded but everything else in balance- notes of plum, tobacco, blackberries, licorice, leather in classic St Estephe fashion has aged very well. Reminiscent of an older Cos d’estournel but not quite in the same league. Long after taste and 13.5% alch, about perfect for older Bordeaux and my palate.

I always find Meyney to be a bit like Talbot and Lunch Bags. Never stunning, but always dependable and enjoyable; even in off vintages.

    And very ageable.

Had the 66 and 70 in 2006, and they were both delicious.
