First time baking and decorating with royal icing

I am always in awe when I see the gorgeous cookies with intricate details on here. This is my first ever attempt. I wanted to make the cookies for my daughter’s 1st birthday party this upcoming weekend. This is my “practice batch” to see if I should scrap the idea or proceed. First bake was too thick and both batches I had trouble with the icing consistency. This is hard work and I really appreciate now why it’s so expensive to have professional cookies made. Definitely worth every penny! Anyway, here’s part of my “Berry First Birthday” cookies.
