Easy crock pot apple butter with a twist — sweet caramels to give it a rich taste. Complete canning instructions.

apple butter it’s good for so many
different things I mean you can use it
on ice cream it’s delicious
great on toast you can use it to make
like a Fig Newton except you use this
instead of fix I love it for making a
dessert I’d slice up some apples and use
this and make an apple crisp it is
absolutely divine there are so many
things you can use it for and of course
you can just eat it out of the jar
[Applause]
so the ingredients from the apple butter
is simple I have a large crack pot and
you know though I say you need this many
pounds of apples for this this many
pounds I don’t know how many pounds it
is I just cut up enough apples to fit in
here
now you might even be able to keep it
higher because the apples do compresses
they cook and if you want this done even
quicker you can cut them up into smaller
pieces your other ingredients is I
usually use a cup and a half of cider I
don’t have any right now but I do have
some of that home canned apple juice
that I made a couple weeks ago so
there’s my apple juice and then I have a
cup of brown sugar and a cup of white
sugar 1 tablespoon of cinnamon 1/2
teaspoon of allspice and 1/4 teaspoon of
cloves now some people don’t like
clothes so you don’t have to add it and
then kind of what you’d say surprise
ingredient is the 21 caramels and of
course we’re gonna unwrap them before we
use them but we are going to use these
till the end now we just want to mix up
sugar spices and fork is good for that
sugar needs to be crushed up a bit I
love the smell of cinnamon
it smells so good what it’s cooking too
a little bit more make sure we just get
these spices in even like won’t really
matter because we will be using our
immersion blender at the end or towards
the end okay now we’re just going to
port this on the top and then mix it in
you know the honest truth is I’m not
going to mix it right now I’m gonna wait
until the apples compress a little cuz
otherwise I’ll make a mess ha which I’m
very good at and then we’re just going
to pour our juice on top
now I’m just gonna put in the slow
cooker for about an hour at high and
then we’re gonna turn the heat down so
here’s the remain of our cords and other
parts of the Apple that we aren’t using
and I managed to run out and put it by
the forest edge and I’m sure the deer
will appreciate it so it’s actually been
about two hours on high I realized boy I
got a late start on this and I’m not one
to let this cook all night long and my
slow cooker so I’m gonna keep it on high
a little longer but I thought I’d add a
tablespoon of vanilla and stir it so
let’s take the top off here
gettin brown and tablespoon here
haha did you see that I flipped one all
the way in the back that’s me I mean
black grace especially with a camera in
front of me well they’re starting to get
a little softer a little more juice on
the bottom I think quite a bit of juice
on the bar
now our goal is get these softened up
enough and then we’ll use our immersion
blender and then we’ll just let some of
the liquid evaporate and our final step
will be adding our caramel stir melt in
it this will be a while so it’s been me
about three and a half hours at high now
I’m using my immersion blender
that’s been a funny you
with bigger camera
a little appetizer
make sure here
okay so starting to look more like apple
butter but as you can see still well
watery so now we’re gonna put the top
back on where you keep it on high we’re
just gonna leave a little vent there see
that it’s just a little vent right there
and that way it’ll stay hot but it can
evaporate some of the juices okay so now
the last hour – I’m just cooking it
where the top off is thickening up quite
a bit but it’s now time to put in a
harness and I have 21 caramels there I
don’t really think you have 20 yeah 30
if you want although it’s fun to eat the
rest of them in the bag so we’re gonna
let those melt come back an hour so so
we have nice rich apple butter and it’s
about time cuz I want to go to bed so
let’s get this can mmm
you see I’m in my nightgown yeah it’s
time to go to bed but I got it done
let’s take a little bit taste of this
hmm
oh it is so good I guess it was worth
staying up this late mmm really good
okay so we checked for air bubbles
now we’re just gonna wipe the rims I
thought I was pretty careful I don’t
think I got anything on it run yeah baby
right there put the lid on it and then
we’ll just do the same with the rest Oh
get them into the canner all the jars
are in the water bath canner into
boiling water and they’re gonna be in
that boiling water for 10 minutes so
there’s the cans out of the canner I’m
happy to say they all sealed I hope you
enjoyed this slow cooker or a crock-pot
caramel apple butter doesn’t it look
great and it tastes great too so I hope
you try it this is proper potpourri

  1. Yum…the aroma of simmering apple butter. As you said, just eat it with a spoon! Pretty reflection of the trees on your countertop! (:

  2. I like apple butter almost as much as rocky road ice cream! If I wasn't married I'd be at your door!!! Ahhh that looks good! Need smell-a-vision!

  3. Carmel is a new twist for me – seems like a good addition 🙂 …..also seems like the best things often take a while

  4. nice one 👍👍 +1 sub to you! Please check out our StevieJoes kid-friendly gardening, outdoors, and gaming channel when you can!

  5. Love it!! Thumbs up. Going to try it out. So much fun to eat caramel apples. Hoping this taste like that. You left the skin on the apples does that improve taste?

  6. I was going to make applesauce with my apples, cored them and baked them in the oven and then ran them through the food mill to get rid of the skin, etc. so now I've got applesauce. I would think I could still put it in the crockpot and let it cook down more until it turns into apple butter right? Why do you leave the skin on?

  7. This Caramel Apple Butter is Amazing…!!!! Did a few processing step changes..shredded the apple, cooked overnight..before processing in jars.. ran thro my blender…so smooth and creamy .but otherwise followed your ingredient recipe exactly…!!! Thank You for sharing..!! will be a constant staple in our home..xoxo

  8. Looks amazing, and I love the caramel idea ! great twist, I'm going to give it a go tomorrow, thank you !

  9. Can you post the recipe, I couldn’t understand what the last liquid was that you added. Looked like syrup

  10. This is my go to recipe for several years now. When its canning time, I take a bunch to work and everyone adores it so wanted to say thanks! Do you have any strawberry rhubarb jam videos? I can never seem to get the consistency right. 🙂

  11. I just found this video and I love your approach to this and how you shared it. I will definitely make this, except I will make the caramel sauce from scratch. Plan on canning it and giving for Christmas. thank you, I now subscribed

  12. Yes, you need to know the weight of the apples. That's what determines the ratio of the sugar to apples. Since you mentioned all the other measurements, not sure why you would not bother with the weight of the apples. The viewer shouldn't have to guess.

  13. I've got to try that! I know my family will love that. I don't think I've ever seen apple butter made with the skins on. Thanks.

  14. I don't have any caramels…. buutttt, I do have Hershey's caramel syrup.
I am planning to can my apple butter. I am curious if I can use the caramel syrup instead of the hard caramels?

  15. Looks super delicious, This is not available, to my knowledge, in the UK so i am looking forward to trying some. I am getting my grand daughter up this week to help deal with a glut of apples and we will try this recipe out. That is if there are any Caramels left to put in. 🙂Thank you for sharing it with us.

  16. Cant wait to make this. I wont be adding vanilla but will definitely be using my vanilla sugar instead. Thanks for sharing.
