    Hi fellow tomato lovers [1]!

after nearly a month my plants have roared on and caught me by surprise- today I looked and realised they were too tightly squashed together. I repotted most of them and buried up to near the main true leaves. I water with hose pipe for the first time. Kiddie gloves are off for these bad boys.

I have 21 strong plants at the moment. This year my strategy is fewer but bigger better plants at lower density to reduce maintenance and chance of disease.

I dug over the patch with some homemade compost ready for plants (ETA May bank holiday!). Aiming for 50cm gaps.

[1] I would’ve said tomato freaks but there was a recent post on this sub that appeared to use “freak” as like a bad thing which got all me confused.

[2] Is it no longer possible to post text and images or am I being dumb? (I suspect the latter..)

Great to hear from the UK. Inevitably most posts are from the US. Also everyone seems to grow under lights.

Mine are all much smaller than yours. When did you sow them? I started mid-March but there’s been so little sun here (I’m further north). I get them out each day in the cold frame but there’s just been so little clear sun. You really notice the growth on the odd days when it shines.

    What varieties?

Will you be growing in a greenhouse or polytunnel or bare back (not sure that’s the horticultural term)?
