My local wine store has “end of bin” sales and I have recently had luck finding a few bottles I’ve really enjoyed – several delicious Riojas that have me hooked.

I came across these two on sale and thought they looked interesting. I love Chianti Classico, montepulciano d'abruzzo, and Barbera d'Asti – but I’m a noob when it comes to the more expensive Italian wines.

I have no illusions that these are AMAZING finds, but I’m curious if either of these are good to drink now or if I should lay both down. The Barolo seemed like a better deal so I purchased 2 of those with the plan of drinking one tonight and saving the other, but my initial research leads me to believe it is too young to open now.

I’d drink the Brunello, and leave the Barolo for a few years. We have some from Molino in our cellar, they did a nice tasting at the winery, and their wines are pretty good for that price.

  2. Drink both tonight. You might be dead tomorrow anyways

If i was gonna drink 1 now I’d drink the brunello, but I had a 2017 brunello about a month and a half ago and thought it was delicious now but would probably get better. But results may vary because it was a different producer than yours. But I doubt the brunello will be “too young” so you can drink now if you want imo

How much experience do you have aging wines? Do you know if you even enjoy them? Most wines bought retail are consumed within a few hours of purchase.

I would personally age both, but working in wine I try wine all the time and rarely and I mean rarely open a bottle at home.
