So I came to Vegas for a bachelor party. Got in a day early and decided to treat myself at the bellagio. They gave me $100 credit to use. Decided to have dinner at Jean Georges steakhouse onsite called Prime. I thought it would be good but I know Vegas food can be hit or miss.

I ordered the 18oz bone in dry aged ribeye for $112. As soon as they sat it down I realized it wasn’t going to be good. It was gray with grill marks. I’m guessing they maybe baked it, set it aside until ordered and then threw on the grill to get the marks? It actually looked worse in person than the pic implies

I could taste it was dry aged by the “funk” taste I normally love. But this was as tough as an overcooked sirloin, felt grainy. It’s confusing cuz the color looks ok. None of the fat was rendered and I’m guessing it wasn’t a very marbled specimen to begin with.

I love good steaks, but I’ll even crush cheap diner steaks, and this was the worst steak I’ve ever had in my life – I’ve never not finished a steak and I just couldn’t with this. Somehow given the texture and the poor taste it made the dry aged flavor almost nauseating.

I should have sent it back or complained but I’m a wittle baby.

Anyway avoid this place. I’ve had better steaks at Cheddars (lowkey best chain steak, don’t @ me)

Vegas……this whole place is a scam. look at that steak, it looks so sad !

Maybe it’s just the picture but it looks raw, not even rare. No wonder it was super tough. Your were likely chewing on a bunch of unrendered fat with a poor sear.

IMO, the best steaks in Vegas are at Craftsteak. I first ate there about 10 years ago and their product hasn’t disappointed.

One trip, I hit 3 nice parlays and treated myself. I ordered their A5 Wagyu Ribcap. It was heaven on a plate.

  4. You need to start standing up for yourself. You are paying for a service and an edible product and this is not it and for this price they should have easily given a refund. This is unacceptable and I’m always scared to say something but I finally hit a point where I had to.

I’d rather just walk away with my money back and get Taco Bell then risk spit food but I will demand a refund now.

It’s so grey, it looks like it came from a zombie cow!
My favorite is and always will be black and blue! Pittsburgh Style!

I received a better-looking steak in podunk County PA for 23.00 last night. Wish I would have taken a Pic or 2.

This is kinda why I don’t buy steak out. They always fuck it up and it’s never exactly how I like so nowadays I just buy something else and save the steak for cooking at home.

Ruth Chris in Vegas s better than that.

That looks pretty bad. I just had an $65 surf and turf in Bangor Maine the other week and it turned out better than that $112 monstrosity.

Thanks for the tip. Looks way to rare for anything very dry aged. Usually those are better 5-10F more cook.

  11. Expensive steak houses are only expensive to keep the riff-raff out. You’re paying for the peace and quiet

  12. HumbleLife69

That sucks. I had a great experience at the J-G steakhouse at Aria.

I’ve just given up going to steak houses.

Sorry bud, a luxury Vegas vaycay shiiid have perfect steak meals. We do like the Korean bbq near the PH for a day meal because we cook it ourselves

For steak at the belladonna I recommend spago

Strange how that works, typically the Outback is good enough, my son took me out for wagui for my birthday and that was the best cut of meat …they just needed to cook it the way I like it but still the most expensive steak I’ve ever ate wasn’t bought by me so I thought it was fantastic

Wow, I am surprised you got that at Jean Georges. He has a bunch of Michelin stars. Then again, I had a mediocre and bland sushi experience at Morimoto, so maybe some of those Michelin star chefs start running their chains more like corporations after they’ve reached a certain amount of fame. They start cutting corners and downgrading quality

How tf do you not complain or send it back ? Cooks should be fired

Why does it look like it was boiled in the first picture😂

  20. bryansamting

give me $20 and I can do better at home

  21. Got a 36oz tomahawk for my 21st at Gallaghers in New York New York, easily the best steak I’ve ever eaten

  22. ITGuy7337

I never order dry aged anymore. It’s so hit or miss. If I order an expensive ass steak and it comes out tasting like actual nuts I’m pissed.

For Vegas, I’ve been to the Gordon Ramsay steak house a few times and it never disappoints.

I absolutely hate Vegas, but I have to go for business fairly often. The only redeeming quality of that city is the food. But, if it’s the ***right*** food. I’ve had lift altering meals there. It’s easy to get scammed hard if you don’t know the right places to go. Just like OP, a lot of people end up paying top dollar for dogshit food you could have gotten from a chain restaurant in middle America.

  24. Oh I’m going to @ you. The Cheddar’s ribeye is soooo underrated!

Sorry about your shitty Vegas steak. I have only had one good steak in Vegas at Charlie Palmer’s inside the Four Seasons.

  25. DITPiranha

We had an amazing experience at Barry’s but it’s downtown below Circa. Had a baller dry aged Australian Wagyu ribeye.

  26. askljdhaf4

Wow. I took the wife to Prime about 18mo ago and one of the best steaks we’ve ever had…

but, it’s not like your ordered some chicken tendies. so a lot more variables involved i am sure. sorry you had a shit experience

  27. Personally, I never order “Bone in” You are paying for something you don’t eat, and something that does nothing to enhance flavor. I get it, its fun to say and fun to look at. $115 for a steak anywhere is nuts to me.

  28. Rando321407

This is my nightmare. Spending 100$+ and having that debate about do I send it back and get the same thing back / have the whole kitchen going nuts / etc or do I just suck it up and eat the sad steak that costs more than my hotel room.

  29. Packapistol

Best steak I ever had… ironically was at Hells Kitchen

  30. Shit like this is disrespectful to the animal that gave it’s life imo. How you gonna charge over $100 for that!?
