Ham is a traditional southern meal. It’s popular on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas,or anytime you have a crowd for supper.

Ham can be stored in the refrigerator for about a week and about four months in the freezer. If you vacuum seal it then it last at least twice as long and the flavor will be preserved.

You can use it to make ham sandwiches, ham and cheese omelets, ham casseroles, ham salad sandwich spreads, breakfast ham, ham biscuits, ham salad, etc…

Ingredients for ham:

1 – Spiral sliced (bone-in) smoked ham
2/3 – cup brown sugar
1/4 – teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 – cup pineapple juice
1/4 – cup apple cider
1 – cup more or less of Honey to taste

Ingredients for candied yams:

2 to 4 – Sweet potatoes
1 – cup brown sugar
1 – stick real butter

Cooking time approx. 4 hours for the ham and 1 1/2 hours for the yams, both at 350 degrees.

Don’t forget to pick up some organic Pam cooking spray, aluminum foil and make sure the ham will fit in your pan before you begin.

how to vote Sam Samantha with the
hillbilly kitchen and today I’m cooking
ham and baked yams so what you’re going
to need is about two-thirds of a cup of
brown sugar or your ham and I’ve put an
eighth of a teaspoon of cinnamon in that
right there eighth of a teaspoon
quarter teaspoon sorry that’s 1/4
teaspoon this is 1/4 cup of pineapple
juice and 1/4 cup apple cider honey and
for your yams for your bacon yams I cut
up two of these and put them in this pan
you’ll also need a cup of brown sugar
you may or may not use it all and a
stick of butter that’s what you’re going
to need so this is a let’s talk about
the ham this is a spiral cut bone-in ham
and that’s the big ole thing I remember
how much it weighs it’s a big way and a
ham is really good to make if you’ve got
company coming over and you’re not
really confident in your cooking this
thing is precooked this one’s actually
smoked but its precooked you really
could take it out of the packet and eat
it just like it is it comes with a glaze
that we’re not using the clay
it presents to you sugar brown sugar
honey
maltodextrin spice silicon dioxide red
number 40 blue number one and yellow
number five so we’re not gonna use that
you can make your own glaze really
really easy it’s gonna take us all off
better let’s pop this thing open
before I open that I check to make sure
that my cam would fit in the pan that I
picked and it does and then I sprayed
that pan with pan because we’re picking
with brown sure and honey if you don’t
spray your pan down with pans you’re
gonna have one more serious message like
that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
just called for any views you didn’t
feel welcome in their own home because
of terrorism become Israel and they go
on it I think six million dollars okay
that’s really significant step you know
let me get a bowl you’re gonna take your
juice here one pineapple pour that in
the bowl and your brown sugar and
cinnamon and have that we spend together
really well
take this this is the first part of your
glaze pour it over the hand
and take your honey it’s the second part
of your blaze
pour it over your hand a good amount of
it you know put enough ah this is a
pretty big ham so put you in the honey
on there to coat it real well and don’t
feel shy about adding some more later if
you feel like it needs it you’re not
going to ruin it with too much honey I
don’t think okay we’re going to take
Luna oil cover this up and then put it
in the oven at 350 degrees and how long
is this thing going to take well I would
a lot at least three to four hours to do
a ham this big so you don’t want it to
come out warm inside you know
okay that part’s done for now you’re
going to come back to it in about an
hour
and when we do we’re going to pour our
glaze over top you know and went keep
that glaze on top of the ham bacon into
it okay
our yams this is to sweet potatoes
they’re really really big so we usually
grow our own and they come out this big
we’re in Tennessee and that our didn’t
do any give this year so we bought these
from another local farmer and just for a
reason Tennessee our food tastes come
out humungous so you might find smaller
ones need to fit more in there
so I’ve got a cup of brown sugar here
I’m going to sprinkle it over these and
I’ve cut them up into uniform pieces
about like this you want unfairly
uniform because if you’ve got big chunks
of sweet potato in there and teeny tiny
chunks of sweet potato the teeny tiny
pieces are gonna cook up faster and
they’re going to turn to mush and then
your yams are gonna look mushy and you
know we still not be cooked on the
inside if you’ve got great big pieces of
kind of uniform pieces on your sweet
taters
and people really like my sweet tater
yam recipe I don’t know why there’s
nothing special to it at all I put the
brown shirt on and I’ve got a stick of
butter here I’m gonna divide it up
around the pan just like that and take
my aluminum foil wrap this up and you
leave the in wrapped up the whole time
cooking them it’s gonna take at least an
hour and a half to two hours to bake
them this many sweet potatoes it’s not
perishable you can cover aluminum foil
and let it sit here until you pour the
glaze back over your
sit to the side for now
and you guys clean up the mess and we’re
gonna come back and work on that handle
some more in about an hour
while this ham is baked and let me talk
to you about something important if you
haven’t already if s your sentence to
God turn from your sins confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord let him be your
Savior he’s my Savior he’ll be your
Savior – we’ve all sinned and fallen
short of the glory of God we’re all
liars thieves murderers blasphemer and
we all deserve to go to hell but Jesus
Christ has paid for those sentence and
if we let him he’ll take all that burden
on himself and you can spend eternity in
heaven with him instead of in Hell where
we really belong okay
baby’s asleep so I’ve got to be quiet
I’ve taken my hand out of the oven it’s
been in there about an hour and I
flipped it over on its side so I’m gonna
start kind of opening up these spirals
just a little bit so that I can get my
glaze that like every piece of ham if
your spoon
and start pouring it down in the slices
so I’m pairing this with fresh-baked
bread and some homemade applesauce
from trees that my mom grows but the pin
and that’s going to be a fine meal for
us that’s going to be plenty but
depending on here you’re having over you
might also want to watch our video on
how to make green beans and mashed
taters too and maybe add some corn to it
so they have plenty to eat and a lot of
variety but just for a family meal and
you know this is really good this with
the sweet taters and maybe baked some
homemade bread or or you can do a little
side dish of your choice but like if I
had my dad over and just add ham and
sweet taters
I’d never heard the end of it you know
you’d be asking where the corn beans or
I’m making a big ham like this every
once in a while is great we’re going to
eat so many different there’s so many
different leftover meals you can make
with this like my husband Willie
sandwiches out of it and I’ll take some
and make casseroles like I might do my
broccoli cheese casserole and
and
go watch our video on easy cheesy tagger
casserole and you can make that with
this leftover ham it’s delicious
okay
we’ve coated everything once I might
take this out one more time and run some
glaze over it you can also flip it over
and lay this some more too but that Glen
don’t blow up into that man while it’s
picking so nowhere near them yet I’d say
this means another hour and a half to
two hours so I’m going to put my little
bit of oil back on this put it back in
the oven for another hour and then we’ll
come back to it I’m also gonna put my
gems and Emma with the ham same
temperature 350 degrees and we’ll show
you what they look like when we come
back okay
it’s hot out of the oven and everything
is done this hand looks great it came
out really really good it’s really
tender just a cork will go right through
it it’s that tender and over here our
sweet re games sorry candy games so if
you can do the pork test to see if
they’re done and they’re very very soft
or goes right through them without any
trouble you can taste it to see them if
it’s crunchy it’s not them it’s really
soft
it’s then and I’m pairing this with some
homemade Portuguese sweet rolls and some
homemade applesauce so I you can set
this up buffet style for your family
all right you got people coming over you
can do some green means corn and mash
chance to go with it
make dinner so hope you enjoy thanks for
joining us on the hillbilly kitchen see
you next time
you
