hello there today my husband baked and
prepared two homemade bread bowls in
which to serve my homemade clam chowder
we are from New England and this is a
favorite especially in winter time he
hollowed out the centers of the bread
that was baked in two 6-in pans then he
removed the centers and saved those for
breadcrumbs I began by melting in a
small saucepan about a tablespoon of
butter the stove top burner is set at
medium
heat as you can see I have another
saucepan in which I peeled and cut two
white potatoes these are not yet cooked
through as when I add them to the
Chowder base they will act as a natural
thickening agent because of their starch
as they continue to cook in the saucepan
I also added a diced small shot into the
butter and we’ll cook this until they’re
softened I then drain into the pan the
juice from 1 18 o can of minced clams I
also added a tablespoon of dry minced
garlic soaked for a minute in a
tablespoon of
water then and go The partially cooked
diced potatoes I stir the ingredients a
bit to be sure everything is combined

well as you can see the ingredients are
coming to a boil this is when I add two
cups of whole
milk
I gently stir the ingredients do not
rush this process because the milk will
burn at the bottom of the
pan here I took a small amount of
cornstarch diluted into about a/2 cup of
the Chowder this is just to be sure I
get a nice thick broth I pour it into
the chowder and continue to stir the
ingredients I check on the tenderness of
the potatoes these are doing great and
the Chowder is almost ready to Ladle
into the bread bowls
as a final touch I add about 2 tbspoon
of melted butter this will make the
broth very rich and full of creamy
flavor and go the clams I wait until the
Chowder is almost done so that the clams
remain tender I do miss New England but
this recipe brings me back to those
winter days when a great bowl of chowder
hits the
spot my husband will now Ladle the
Chowder into his prepared homemade bread
bowls these were made from his sourdough
recipe perfect for this
