What an unforgettable experience! These wines were outstanding with the older vintages really showing why Mouton is one of the most famous producers in the world!

1986 – This wine has a perfect score from the critics and the only negative thing I can say is it’s still a bit young! Fantastic array of flavors with black fruit still dominating proceedings. Black cherry and cassis with smokey vanilla finish. Still tons of acid and tannins indicating this wine has plenty to show in the future!

1988 – More mellow and delicate than the ’86. Showing its age a little bit but still has a little more time to develop. A lot of robust frutiness with cherry and blackberries but the bottle age is very forward with cedar and forest floor.

1996 – Wow. What a winner this wine was. Still very young and fruity for a wine that’s almost 30 years old. Tannic with a great acidic balance. More ripe cherries and blackcurrant, hints of fresh vanilla, finished with very subtle pencil shavings and cigar box.

1998 – Remarkably similar to the 1996 vintage. Slightly more concentrated flavors. Slightly more black plum and blueberry, but very intense. Slight nuances of clove and fresh leather!

When I post I usually like to go into further detail with notes but four wines was too much! I hope you enjoy!

I had the ’88 about 10 years ago and it was corked. Glad yours showed better. I remember 1996s in Paulliac had a lot of green and acidic notes. Cool to hear.

Whatta showing! I just won a 2003 at auction and can’t wait to open it – which I plan on doing at some point this year.
