[Music] bless you wise [Music] [Applause] [Music] Shalom I’m Neil and this is my wife Jamie Shalom Welcome to our anointed home away from home in Toronto Canada most of our programs are taped in our Fort Lauderdale living room uh and you’ll go there with us today later on in this program you’ll go to our kitchen to our dining room to our living room as we explore this really special Jewel anointing now James what do we have here on the coffee table well we can’t discuss anointing without being with oil obviously you anoint with oil so we have olive oil and then we have a horn and in Bible times they used horns to anoint with then of course we have the oil lamps two different kinds they lit their homes with oil and that bar thing over there is actually a bar of olive oil soap that we got yeah we got this recently in Israel I haven’t tried it yet it looks interesting and then we have our hanukiya of course which has the Shamus in it and of the story of the miracle of oil from Hanukkah and then we have a very special oil here Neil which is scented with frankincense and myrrh It’s a Wonderful anointing oil I love that fragrance and last but not least we have where the oil comes from I couldn’t resist it or snack today’s olives well James I guess we really should start with Hebrew for oil which is shemen and like most uh Hebrew words it has a three-letter root Shin mem none and it’s really related to several other Hebrew words for example it’s related to Shemesh which is the Hebrew word for sun or brilliant and it’s related from there to shamash which is a servant candle as you mentioned and literally right and then to Shaman which means to shine or to be brilliant and it’s kind of like what happens to Furniture when you polish it with oil I guess that’s what’s supposed to happen to us we’re supposed to let our light so shine yeah that’s what it means by being anointed I guess so well let’s Place anointing in a Biblical context I think you know by really talking about oil in general there were many uses for oil and Bible times household use is obvious for cooking and lighting then there was a cosmetic use remember in the Bible in Ruth 3 3 Naomi told Ruth to go down to the threshing floor to visit Boaz but to anoint herself first cosmetically then very close to that use was the use of purification and in Esther 212 remember the girls who were going before the king anointed themselves for six months with sweet oils and six months with oil of myrrh then there was the use for invigoration King David did this in Samuel chapter 12 second Samuel that is after the child born of Bathsheba died David anointed himself for invigoration then there’s the medicinal use if you read in Luke chapter 10 the parable of the Good Samaritan they poured oil and wine in the wounds there was oil used in anointing for burial also for Hospitality one of my favorites Neil is when remember when it says in Psalm 23 he anoints my head with oil well they were supposed to anoint the oil of an honored guest and that’s God anointing absolutely anointing David’s head with oil right yeah that’s beautiful and then finally there was the sacred use of oil for anointing or consecrating things to God well Jane before we go to the sacred use of oil let’s talk about how oil was actually made in biblical times I went to visit Jim Scott at 10 tour just outside of Jerusalem and he showed me an olive press that was typical of those that were used during Biblical times let’s go to see that right now what’s this in the bags back here well the olives would be crushed between two millstones and then put in bags like this Stone put on and then the beam would be put on Stones they would put the first weight on and leave it for around 30 minutes now this particular pressing of the oil would be the very finest oil and this was reserved to go to the temple where it was used for anointing by the priests okay and the oil would come down through the sacks into the collecting Basin and then would be dipped up and strained into jars like this right here for storage okay and then we’re back out here and I see another weight on there okay after the first stone and the pressing they would add a second Stone and maybe put this on for an hour or two and then this was used for eating and cooking purposes by the owners of the olive Orchard or would be sold in the regular food tray families yes then they would add a third weight and maybe let it say for uh three to four hours and you’d have a lesser quality of oil would come more oil but lesser quality and this would be used to help in mixing with cattle feed it might be used for lighting the lamps in the home then the fourth and final weight would be put on and this would be uh probably the Lesser quality oil it would contain a certain amount of lye from the olive seeds and exactly themselves would be great right and that would be used for making soap and uh you probably have heard of some of the very good soaps and you all over the world most of them use olive oil as the base it’s a very very soft and uh very wonderful soap to use okay now in Hebrew what is this whole device called it’s a call Gethsemane it means oil press and you’ve heard of The Garden of Gethsemane and several of these were found there so uh Jesus would have been familiar with this particular type of press speaking of Gethsemane that’s got Shaman in Hebrew we’ll be hearing more about that place later in the program but right now we’d like to define the word anoint mashak in Hebrew is that correct Webster says to anoint is to put oil on in a ceremony of making sacred or consecrating to a high office and there were three groups that were anointed in Bible times people places and things and Jane the first example of a person who was anointed was Moses being told to anoint Aaron we find that in Exodus chapter 30 the first example of a place being anointed we find in Genesis that was uh Jacob remember the story about Jacob and the latter going up to heaven and the angels going up and down he anointed that stone with oil called the place Bethel the house of God and the first example of things is also in Exodus chapter 30. it was the implements for the temple uh they were called Kali kodesh or holy utensils and anointed things which are uh poured oil on them are said to be made holy to God right now we were exposed to of course the practice of Believers today anointing with oil early in our walk with the Lord even earlier than 1975 and we’ve anointed everything from motel rooms our home when we go places we set them apart we sanctify them for God’s use right their children our children of course but I think the most interesting story we have about anointing that I’d like to share with my friends is one day in 1975 we were in a church we were not in a Messianic synagogue yet and there was no pianist there this that morning no organist and the Lord spoke to my heart and said to me if you ask them to anoint your hands with oil in the name of Yeshua hamashiach in the name of the Lord I’ll give you the gift of playing the piano by ear well I was slightly terrified but Faith rose up in my heart and I said I believe God and I did I gave them my hands I sat at a big grand piano with my eyes closed in front of the whole church that’s right about three 400 people that morning and you know what happened I began to play the piano by ear by faith and that’s what anointing with oil through the power of God’s holy spirit he still does Miracles well the Bible tells us about other things which are anointed even things in kitchen and not too long ago Jamie and Tantaros were in our Fort Lauderdale kitchen where they talked about some of the anointed things Shalom and welcome to my kitchen a place that God has anointed for his service as well as for the pleasure of my family and our extended family the mishpocha Dr Rose tell me about the anointing that will be on the kitchens in all of Jerusalem someday what is the prophet Zechariah saying well Zechariah 14 20 and 21 it says at that time the horses Bells will have written on them holy to the Lord the cooking pots in the temple of the Lord will be like the holy altar balls every path in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the Lord oh I love it I have to tell you Rose I’m so excited I’m dropping spoons listen I had to start already and make a bow you like it I love it only to the Lord can we see that I can’t believe that someday every pot in Jerusalem will say that so our dish today that we’re not actually cooking in a pot but I wanted to show that for the anointing is red snapper it’s red snapper isn’t that beautiful Italian Jewish red snapper and olive oil right and I’m gonna start putting it in okay to the oil baking dish do you know I want to mention to our friends someone had given me a book about the classic Cuisine of the Italian Jews and Rose I was sure that most of the recipes would have oil in them and sure enough there’s a lot of cooking with olive oil so I found this recipe on the red snapper and then I started doing some research about olive oil as a matter of fact I went to the doctor’s office the other day and this was on the counter in the doctor’s office listen to what it says they’ve found that women who consume olive oil at more than one meal a day have a 25 percent lower risk of breast cancer than those who ingest it less often and they’ve done lots of studies showing that olive oil is very good for you of course you don’t use olive oil and then a lot of other kind of fats you substitute the other fats right for olive oil so that’s what we’re doing today and then and there’s lots of kinds of olive oil yes and we’re using extra virgin olive oil which is the least acidic one percent acidity acidity and it’s from the first pressing of the olives and it has a better smell and taste more expensive but I like it okay salt okay a teaspoon of salt and we’re gonna then the olive oil okay and you know olive oil is also healthy because it’s from the tree from fruit as long as it’s not as saturated right you could have the olive oil now I just mixed a half teaspoon sugar and some red wine vinegar right and you’re going to pour that in like this I’m just going to pour this right over it like that and then this is an interesting ingredient these are pinolis well you said cannolis and I say pine pine nuts you’ve got the edible seed of the pine tree very sweet very chewy it’s going to make a beautiful dish okay now we’re going to bake this in the oven at 350.50 for how long 20 minutes about 20 minutes covered right and then we’re gonna take off the cover and put on and put the raisins raisins and it comes out absolutely delicious yeah it’s baked basically when all the liquid is gone and the red snapper is golden no we forgot to tell our friends you may think Tanta Rose and I are being very romantic I mean why do you have a candle I usually don’t cook fish with candles but Rose said to me well we have to have a candle and I said why why do we have to have a candle hey tell them will I get the fish okay when you cook fish it has an ode so when you light a candle it takes the odor out and this is what I believe now I might be wrong but I doubt it but this is what I believe that it takes away the smell of the fish here we go now could you move that trivet for me again here’s our golden red snapper after it’s been rocking the raisins on it isn’t that beautiful well you know we’re gonna have to find out how can we do this that’s exactly yeah oh yeah oh does that smell good delicious now this is you know we’re using the whole fish I know yeah people really think well with their eyes and everything but let’s see but it looks absolutely you sample that you tell me what you think about that the way I sure will thank you Lord send in for the recipe moist delicious oh you have to taste this you’re right she’s right Jamie I think you and Tanta Rose are really anointed to cook that fish was delicious you know there are three categories in the Bible First of all there are prophets who are Anointed God sent the Prophet Elijah to anoint Elisha and we find that story in First Kings then we have priests being Anointed God told Moses to anoint Aaron as the priest and we find that he did it in Leviticus chapter 8 and then of course Kings God sent Samuel to anoint David to be king and we find that in first Samuel chapter 16. in each case they were Anointed with oil and the oil is used as a symbol of God’s holy spirit the ruach hakodesh and it’s that sense in which we use oil today when we anoint people you know Neil the way in which people were Anointed with the Holy Spirit in the tanakhra in the old Covenant scriptures is different from the way that they’re Anointed with oil in the new come to scriptures in the tanakhodes or the Holy Spirit did not live inside of God’s people he came on individuals and anointed them at certain times to do certain tasks for example the Holy Spirit came upon the Prophet Elijah one day and he outrun ahab’s chariots Across The Plains of Jezreel he couldn’t run like that all the time only when he was anointed and just a few days later Elijah was running from Queen Jezebel and you remember Neil this was in his own strength and he fell down exhausted under a tree so the anointing makes a difference the anointing makes a difference in everything whether it’s cooking or running really and today the the Holy Spirit lives and Believers when we accept Yeshua hamashiach and we establish re-establish that relationship with God that intimacy with God through his atoning death then the spirit of God lives in us and we become anointed because he’s the anointed one remember mashaq to anoint well mashiach means anointed one and really Yeshua hamashiach Jesus the anointed one that’s not his last name not his last name as it went from the Hebrew into the Greek as Christos and then into the English is Christ it came out as Jesus Christ but really Yeshua hamashiach Jesus the anointed one and what I love is that Yeshua has a triple anointing he is Anointed as Prophet priest and King how is he anointed his Prophet he’s a prophet like Moses God’s very words are in the mouth of Yeshua hamashiach how he’s anointed as king even a sign When They Crucified him he was called King of the Jews but I love in Psalm 45 where it says that God has anointed his God God has isn’t that what it says God your God has anointed me with the oil of gladness above my companions that’s referring to Yeshua the Messiah the anointing is King and then of course his anointing as high priest he makes intercession for believers he prays for us even right now triple anointing and throughout the Tanakh Jamie Yeshua is spoken of as meshiach search the scriptures and you’ll find it there’s no question that he’s there not too long ago in our Fort Lauderdale dining room you spoke with Randy Smith a Bible teacher and a trainer of Israeli tour guides you talk to him about yeshua’s triple anointing as Prophet priest and King how does Yeshua then fit into that mashiach being Prophet priest and King there are different roles that Yeshua plays not only in the ministry when he came the first time but also in the prophetic Ministry that we know happens through not only the Book of Revelation but other other texts that tell us what what Michelle is going to do in the end time so that when obviously when Yeshua came and walked on the Earth he walked as one who reconciled people to God in a Priestly like Ministry um there’s a sense in which he served as a prophet that is he gave utterances of Prophecy that obviously we uh in the gospels um heavily teach and rely on for so much of what we believe and what is important to us the king part of this component is the part that we’re looking forward to okay he’s coming back as king he’s coming back as king of kings and Lord of lords the Bible says okay now this king is coming back was in a place that we’ve been in in Jerusalem and I know you’ve been there probably thousands of times called The Garden of Gethsemane which has something to do with anointing and I’d like you to explain that to us the the garden the god itself its name comes from two different Hebrew words Gat like gath of the Bible Gate means to press uh Shaman is is oil that you’re getting from the olives so uh gats Shaman is the place where there’s a large public olive oil press it’s not a garden in the sense that you’re going to see flowers there are flowers there now because for hundreds of years people came and said where’s the guard and so they put flowers in because they didn’t you know they didn’t want to disappoint the pilgrim but uh in a real sense when you’re looking at uh say opposite of where the Garden of Gethsemane is today on the other side of the Kidron Valley and you see the rows and rows of olive trees this probably captures what in fact it looked like back in the first century and that that area is well known it’s a public area it’s not something that would have been an unusual place to go at night for instance John 18 verse 1 after um Yeshua had had his last supper with the disciples uh they went across the Wadi or the brook the dry River bed kid drone go to a place of the public oil press and it’s a good place to meet at night actually because um Mount of Olives is a chalk Mountain so it’s a very light colored soil of course this is at pesach so it’s a full moon so you have light-colored soil full moon it’s a very nicely lighted place to go and he’ll come together with the uh the disciples came there and of course he came to pray and they came to sleep right it was a long night it thought a lot they wanted but what is the significance of Yeshua that last night there and the the intensity of his experience with the father in The Garden of Gethsemane what why would it be you know the oil what is the connection with the oil press do you see the symbolic yes I think there’s a couple of things I think that the the writer of the Gospel John wants to point that out he wants to say um as Jesus is praying he’s pressed as it were with this great weight and the the drops of blood are pouring out of his body as he’s just in the same way that you would press out the olives there’s an intensity about that whole session and the weight Yeshua was pressed with was the weight of our sins Jane you know it’s always fascinating talking with Randy he’s one of those rare non-jews who really loves Israel and is excited about the Jewish roots of his faith well what about the anointing of Believers well I wish we had another half hour to discuss this topic many Believers don’t realize that as followers of the anointed one of the meshiach we can walk in that anointing as prophets priests and kings of course a word of clarification is necessary here God doesn’t anoint the old-flesh nature he anoints that new creation those walking in the spirit following after the spirit of God that’s who God anoints right and God’s original calling of the Jewish people was to be a royal priesthood to be a light to the Nations and in fact all who are in the New Covenant have that same calling here it is in First Peter chapter two but you are a chosen generation a royal priesthood a holy nation that’s our calling that’s our anointing not only that the anointing is Kings Revelation 1 6 Yeshua said he has made us Kings and Priests to his God and Father King’s priests and what about prophets Ephesians 4 11 summer prophets and all may prophesy so we have that triple anointing as well whatever the case may be all should be filled with the holy spirit of God and you shared with our Messianic Rabbi Harvey Kohler the other day in our living room how all believers really need to be filled with the oil of God’s spirit I read a little story recently about a man with a can of oil and he went around oiling all the spots that he saw that were Rusty or that where if something was squeaking he’d put oil on it and the moral of the story was that he made it easier for the people who came after him you know to pass through the hard places of life in a spiritual application is that God gives us a can of oil which really is the deposit of the Holy Spirit and as believers the oil is not just for us but we’re to go around and put oil in Rusty places so that when people have to pass through those places it won’t be so difficult I saw that a parable that kind of illustrates this principle about the need for believers in Yeshua to have oil in their lamps and always be ready is the parable of the wise and foolish virgins right at 25 Matthew 25 so I don’t think that the oil was just being prepared for the coming of the bridegroom but being prepared for just the everyday things that happen in our lives and again oil is not just for us it’s for other people and I found that like in the in the Bible where we have the prophet and the Widow and the Widow gave from her poverty to the prophet and provided for him her oil and her meal it never ran out and if we give in the name of the Lord for his purposes and his calling our oil in a meal will never run out and even though we’ve never asked for money on this program many of you have sent donations to help us and we know that God is faithful and we know that he will never let your oil or your meal run out Jamie every one of us really is called to live in the anointing as Believers in Messiah and you know today is the time that we need to seek the Lord we’re going to share a song with you by Jeremy Storch it’s really a prayer we would just encourage you as he sings to make this your prayer today [Music] thank you we’ve been deadly I come to thee my Lord Let Your Presence be known [Music] fail me with your glory until my spirit overflows anoint me let my cup run over anoint me let the rivers flow anoint me let my cup run over anoint me with your spirit Lord [Music] one thing I desire let your holy fire burn in my soul and deep within my heart anoint my cup my Lord fill me up with the spirit of the Living God anoint me let my cup run overnight me let the rivers flow anoint me let my cup run over anoint me with your spirit Lord my cup run overnight me let the rivers flow anoint me let my cup run over anoint me with your spirit Lord anoint me with your spirit Lord anoint me with your spirit anoint me with your spirit anoint me with your spirit Lord Lord say that with me anoint me with your spirit Lord anoint me with your spirit Lord the anointing makes all the difference in the world there’s nothing more precious than God’s ruach hakodesh His Holy Spirit you know Neil the Bible says in Acts 10 38 that God anointed Yeshua Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power and he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil for God was with him and that same Yeshua is alive today he is alive today and God wants you to ask him who Yeshua really is if you don’t know him ask your father ask the god of Abraham Isaac and Jacob who Yeshua is if he is the Messiah right one day he asked the Jewish fisherman Peter who do you say that I am and that Jewish fisherman Simon barjona said you are the Messiah you are hamashiach the son of the Living God the anointed one Messiah answered him said Simon barjona Flesh and Blood have not revealed this to you but my father was in heaven ask the god of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and he’ll show you who the anointed one really is [Music] you are my song in the daytime and my peaceful rest at night and my dear life in Yeshua Jesus the middle wall of partition is broken down male female Jew
