I don’t know how a lot of you in the US feel about Red 40 dyes in their food and drink, but I avoid it all costs.

With that being said, Aperol and Campari are both colored with Red 40 and it was one of the only times I’d buy anything with Red 40 because there was no substitute available near me… until today.

Came across this aperitif at Trader Joe’s and it’s colored with caramel color, hence why it’s a bit darker than your typical Aperol Spritz. It’s slightly more bitter than Aperol as well but I enjoy the bitterness to it. Give it a go if you have a Trader Joe’s near you. Only $11.99 v Aperol or Campari which is about $30 near me.

I made this with the same ratios; 90ml Prosecco, 60ml Aperol, 30ml sparkling water. Like I said, a bit darker compared to Aperol, but none of chemical dye.
