It is done! I have tried growing garlic twice before this but with poor results. This year I vernalized the seed garlic in the fridge for two months before planting and I think that was the difference between getting nothing and getting heads of garlic. These are mostly softneck varieties but I even grew one hardneck and they all bulbed up and made nice heads.
My spacing was too tight and some of the heads are small but I will work on that next year. Just happy to have grown usable garlic! After harvest I put them on a wire shelf with a fan blowing on them gently for about two weeks to cure them. It is really humid here and has been raining a lot and I didn’t think the garage or outside would be dry enough for them to dry out. I’m not sure if I cured them successfully, I guess time will tell, but they seem dried out and like regular garlic you might get at the store.
I used this tutorial to braid the garlic if anyone is wondering
Just wanted to share, happy about my harvest and what I have learned and looking forward to perfecting some things next year. Looking forward to some Bruschetta with garden tomato, basil, and garlic!
Happy gardening everyone.

Yay garlic! I haven’t had any luck with mine yet. Maybe chilling them will help.
