Chateau Canon 2015, a 100-pointer?

  1. Upon opening, burst of red fruits and oaky vanilla with tannic finish. Decanted for two and a half hour, much mellowed down with fruits scaled back as well. The welcoming silky finish was however quickly yielded to tannic aftertaste but was overall still smooth.

This wine was very good for a young Bordeaux and was quite ready tonight. But I didn’t find the hype that it deserves 100 points.

100 points is only relative to the reviewer, what someone finds “perfect” is incredibly subjective.

Durand is slightly overkill… I like your style 😛

Ah-so for a 2015 vintage? I get that it’s partly for the visual. Anyway, solid wine & points are dumb.

So I’m sure you knew this but I’ve had multiple friends ask about it and so I’m just mentioning it in case – Merlot dominant Bordeaux can be a surprise

I didn’t get 100 pts from barrel tasting, I didn’t get 100 pts from a bottle tasting 2 years later. Side by side I preferred the 2016 (vintage is much more my style). It’s a great wine but I found it to be quite broad and not focused, a bit like it was shouting loudly to be heard. I can’t imagine it’s changed too much.
