This little guy (4 oz for $4.49—expensive!!) at Wegman’s grocery store packs a flavor punch with “fresh goat cheese rolled with blueberry and vanilla.” The wild berry is sweetened with cane sugar.

Overall the goat cheese is more flavorful than the President Feta Cheese crumble you can buy at Costco but a lot less salty (4% vs 11% per 1 oz). The blueberry is also sweeter than fresh blueberry because of the sugar and vanilla. The combined flavors is like a dessert cream cheese but better. (Why I am writing this? I tried to simulate the Wegman’s cheese with what I had on hand)

  • I’ve heard of Jeni’s Splendid Goat Cheese and Cherry which I’ve heard used to be their top seller (was it?) which is now a seasonal flavor. Is it going to hit the shelves soon? Anyway that ice cream sparked my interest in this little goat cheese and I am entranced!

  • I’ve come across Tillamook Marionberry Pie which has a bit similar flavor profile (vanilla, Marionberry, pie crust). The vanilla has the barest hint of tang (like, a whiff!) but is definitely not goat cheese. The Marionberry is more similar to blackberry/raspberry than blueberry.

I don’t actually mind checking out other fruit flavors. There was a slab (size of large cake slice) of cranberry goat cheese at Wegman’s ($11) I’ve heard rave reviews over.

Side note: I was also interested in the goat cheese and blueberry at Trader Joe’s (8 oz for $4-5!) and Harris Teeter (the same 4 oz but $7, different brand). Anyone did comparisons?

I’ll mention that the goat cheese and vanilla combo of the Wegman’s cheese is very reminiscent of really good cheesecake. Think quite a tangy cheesecake.

Do you eat this like a slice of cheesecake or put it on a cracker
