As title states saw this bad boy for free on the curb wondering some things about it as I’ve never had a pellet smoker. Looks like some flare up damage on the lid and “heat blanket thing”, something to worry about? Also the “shields” under the cooking grate were all wrapped with foil that I removed, is it necessary to do that? Other than that, all I did was take the shop vac to it and it seems pretty solid so what are things to look for to know if it’s fully functioning? Thanks I hope your answers keep my excitement level up as I’m pumped !

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!
If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?
Traeger on!

Did you plug it in yet? See if the auger works, then go from there. Get the model number and look for parts.
Looks okay. Like the previous poster said, plug it in and see if the auger works. Also check the fan, you will be able to hear it.
That thing looks better than mine, and it still runs great.
Nice find! Looks like a pro 22. I could be wrong but mine looks exactly like that. It’s covered in tinfoil for the grease. You don’t have to use it but I would recommend it as it helps a ton when cleaning. Does it work?
Wow, I got my pro 22 when they first came out. Can’t believe people are throwing them out already. It doesn’t look like anything major is wrong with that one though. You might have to replace a few parts then it run for many more years. There’s also a good chance that it was just user error and they threw it out because they got frustrated
If it works that’s a hell Of a find man. I have that one and I love it.
You scored, big time. I have the same one.
Start by plugging it in to make sure it works. If it does, empty the hopper and run it for a while to get the pellets in the auger out.
Then lay it down and scrub/power wash it. Be sure to take steel wool to the temperature sensor. It’s probably black and coated with everything.
Dry it out, add pellets, and start smoking! My favorite thing to smoke are bacon, deviled eggs, and ribeyes.
Seeing as I just paid a bunch for mine only a few months ago, I’d say you scored big time!
I only wrap the drip tray to keep it easy to clean. The heat shield underneath doesn’t need it.
Hell of a curb find tbh
A lot of times, people let them run out of pellets and continue to run them which creates an air pocket, and they don’t clean them.
You can buy liners for the drip tray, i clean mine and reused them if I can. They are a little thicker than foil so I like them.
The Traeger app is a great a tool to have for a new Traeger user.
You got a hell of a deal! Enjoy it!
Hell yeah, nice score!!! I have the 22 and I
love mine.
Aw, it’s a rescue!
If you went to be extra careful you can just replace the auger and the heat rod. The parts are pretty inexpensive and easy to replace
Beware, I gave one away due to unknowingly roasting a family of mice in the auger.
I have a pro22. Absolutely love it! Enjoy it!!
Yeah nice find! Neighbor threw his out to the curb. I asked what was wrong and he told me it needed a new control panel. Brought it home cleaned it (dirtiest smoker I have ever seen) and it worked like a champ. Even ran a diagnostics with a Traeger tech on a video chat and they said it worked great. Best trash I ever brought home. 😂
Nice little $500.00 curb find
