Has anyone tried Padaria’s? They are not Italian so curious if there is a different Brazilian style

  2. bellsbliss

Masselis. Not a bakery but they always bring a huge selection of them.

  3. 4kidsinatrenchcoat

I live near Sud Forno so I get mine there.

It’s great but I’m tempted to say the chocolate one is too chocolate? Very good price to quality ratio tho!

  4. FeelingCut690

I usually get them from whoever I gave them to last year

As someone who has never bought panettone but always intrigued by the lovely packaging, how do you prepare/eat it? Just slice it and serve like a cake? Spread with something? Toasted?

  6. Currently I generally leave the panettone purchasing to my dad who’s the panettone lover in the family. I’ve noticed that Johnvince has a pretty good selection though.

One of my favourite experiences in years past though was to browse through the offerings in the basement of Honest Ed’s. Met the most interesting folks doing so as well!

  7. Cheese Boutique also always tons of panettone if you’re in the west end.

Am I a bad Italian? I thought we just regifted one we got from someone else and so on. A chicken or the egg scenario.

    Tre Mari tho

  9. toradian05

The NoFrills on Landsdowne has a big selection at this time of year

I went on a quest for panettone yesterday.

Eataly has an extensive selection. They had a 20% off deal if you bought 2 (can mix and match with pandoro).

Fiesta Farms has quite a few too. This is where I ended up picking one up.

I saw a ton at Eataly, and they had a cute display of them all at the entrance! But those are probably super overpriced. My family has traditionally bought them at Lady York Foods (2939 Dufferin St).

I bought mine at Eataly two weeks ago, when they were 30% off for Black Friday. The raisins in the variety I chose have been soaked in dessert wine. I will toast it, slather it with salted butter, and top it with a little fig jam for extra decadence.

I prefer Pandoro to Panettone tbh but an australian chef is doing a bunch of taste tests and reviews of different local panettone and some of the flavours they get sound delicious!

And remember at the end of christmas, you can use your left over/unopened Panettone to bludgeon a disliked person or make some delicious bread pudding!

  15. I am obsessed with panettone and always make my own for Christmas morning. The rest of the season, I eat panettone from Costco, or supermarket brands like Tre Marie, Balocco, Maina… Fiesta Farms has a nice selection.

  16. There are very few panettone I have really liked. However, this one I recently had from Tommaso Muzzi with Orange and Chocolate is really good.

Is there a huge difference between the pre packaged kind at grocery stores and bakery at specialty store versions?

  18. richiesuperbear

I buy after the new year after they are 75 percent off .. or at Costco, they had loisin one year for a decent price.

  19. Previous-Syllabub614

fortinos has a pretty large selection too

  20. CanadianMasterbaker

Most of these places don’t make real panettone, but a version that is most similar to a brioche.

  21. turbo_22222

Cheese Boutique has a huge selection of good ones imported from Italy. Having already consumed two that I purchased there, I can tell you there were very good and not stale!

  22. Popes-first-blumpkin

Lady York. But dont tell anyone

  23. Farm Boy is also selling the sud forno ones. Saw them this eve.

    Pusateri’s sells their own also.

  24. reversethrust

I always hated panetonne. That was until last year when a friend baked a fresh one. It was delicious. He made another batch this year with less moisture and it was so light and fluffy and flavourful. I loved it. He made another one with more moisture and it was like cake. … 🙁
