LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — William Serrano “Bill” McCrystyn, founder of Scoops Homemade Ice Cream in Hot Springs, passed away at the age of 78 on December 14, 2024.
Bill was born in Little Rock, but raised in California.
He then returned to Arkansas more than 20 years ago, putting his cooking skills to use to create Scoops Homemade Ice Cream in Hot Springs.
The restaurant was recently sold to a longtime customer, who plans to continue producing Bill’s personal recipes and keep the name of Scoops alive.
The new owner has also expanded the restaurant to Little Rock with two new locations.
The family is asking that memorials to Bill be made by the planting of a tree or the making of a charitable donation to the Humane Society of Garland County.
