First Fruit Farms, a nonprofit Christian ministry located in Freeland, Maryland has announced that they successfully distributed 4.7 million pounds of food in 2024 to those facing food insecurity.
Additionally, the non-profit received 2.7 million pounds of donated food. Combined with the fresh produce grown on the fields, the hard work of 20,000 volunteers annually, as well as the opening of their own Distribution Center, the First Fruit Farms were able to double their impacts from last year, the nonprofit announced today.
This achievement enabled them to support families and individuals struggling across the Mid-Atlantic region, making a “Record-breaking impact in 2024,” the announcement stated.

“We are incredibly grateful for our longstanding partnership with First Fruits Farm,” said Carmen Del Guercio, CEO and President at the Maryland Food Bank. “Their commitment to providing fresh, nutritious food has made a significant difference in the lives of those we serve at the Maryland Food Bank.”
A lot of the success came from the Farm’s ability to get third-party food distributors, which started after the opening of their Distribution Center.
“Our Distribution Center has been a game-changer for our operation such that we are open and in service to our neighbors in need 12 months of the year, well beyond our months of harvest. It allows us to receive first-quality rescued food that we can get out to our distribution partners in short order. That’s why we’re here – to get healthy, nourishing food into the hands of those that need it,” Executive Director and Co-Founder, Rick Bernstein said.
