CAPITAL REGION, NY (WRGB) — The National Retail Federation predicts that Americans will spend 17.3 billion DOLLARS on food, drinks, and other purchases for Super Bowl 59.
This would be a new record, surpassing the 17.2 billion DOLLARS spent in 2020, topping the list every year is chicken wings.
The National Chicken Council estimates that Americans will eat over 1.4 billion chicken wings on Super Bowl Sunday, that’s enough for each person in the U.S. to eat four wings.
Market 32 Culinary Director John Mazzacco, a two-time wing recipe champion with 30+ years in the industry shares the key to the perfect chicken wing; “it starts with the right product in the beginning, the oil making sure it’s up to temp and making sure you cook it to at least 165 degrees.”
Market 32 anticipates 20,000 pounds (10 tons) of wings for the game day alone and approximately 90,909 of them will be ordered from their 129 locations.
Mazzacco says the kitchens are planning for Super Bowl Sunday roughly 6 months in advance.
Mazzacco joined us live Saturday morning to talk about the preparations that go into those game-day winning wings.
