Second half of an order I placed through Weee! arrived last night, this with three different varieties from a Japanese producer. From left to right, Spanish—yup, see the flag—sardinillas in extra virgin olive oil, domestic Japanese baby sardines in habanero sauce, and congee eel in a not-too-sweet soy sauce. Perfectly satisfied with Weee!, and it’s very fun to have access to some Asian choices my various retail and other online outlets don’t offer.

To be honest, neither the sardinillas from Spain nor the eel are great revelations. They’re both as expected. High quality examples, but not anything novel.

The habanero-sauced little Pacific sardines, though, are something else. I’ll feature one of those cans in coming days, but for now I’ll just offer that if you are, like me, on a never-ending journey in search of true heat in a can, you’re gonna like this. Perhaps a hair less fiery than Rainbow Tomatoes Garden’s POW! pilchards—which I love—but also different in that there’s no garlic in this Japanese product and these are sardinillas—smaller is funner!
