Some have called Wendy’s Bacon Mushroom Melt one of the best fast-food burgers ever created. Over the years, I have received several requests to copy this burger, and I finally did it. 1/4 pound 80/20 ground beef, mushroom-cheddar sauce and 3 strips of bacon! This was always my favorite burger from Wendy's, always wished it was a constant. I've tried in the past to copy but could never get the cheese down, I'll have to give rico's a try. Thanks for making me want to give this copycat a go! 🍔
Sup Greg, I bought Wendy's bacon mushroom melt once lol. I'm guilty of using canned cheese or melt Velveeta with lil milk on my melts, even ham and cheese with egg like croque medam or whatever called lol. Processed cheese gets a bad name. Has uses too. Wendy's prices now($8?) be so much cheaper to make own, have 2 lol. Tyvm tc 🍔
Finally someone who brings up that Wendy's bun! I have been screaming that since tehy changed it! It was on their Big Bacon Classic and I was so sad when they switched. Love your channel!
Hi Greg! I am up in Winnipeg Canada. Up here we, of course, have all the big chains. But locally we have a bunch of small chains and one offs. Usually Greek family owned and they all offer, in one form or another, a "Fat Boy" burger. These consist of 1, 2 or even 3 large patties, burger chili, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mayo, mustard and cheese. As well, the better joints (in my opinion) use locally sourced Kaiser type buns and have large portions of homemade fries. For local "chains" we have George's Burgers and Junior's but for 1 offs we have, VJ's, Daly Burgers, Diary Whip. Mrs. Mike's, Burger Place, Willy Dogs, Cindy's Burgers, White Top and Super boys just to name a few of many. It would be really cool if you did some kind of copycat of a Fat Boy. Love your channels! Wendy's isn't using any of Dave Thomas' original recipes, including their hamburgers. I haven't had a good burger at Wendy's in over 20 years.

If you go to the right wendys at the right time of day or you have a homie who can hook it up, they have a really good chicken sandwich.

Hi Greg, this sauce made me think (rare occasion, don't go at me for saying it): while still working on the sauce for the Nowon burger, I'm foraging mushrooms myself and I dislike canned button shrooms for their weired taste. Tastewise, I'd give ground mushroomes a go. Texturewise, I'd rather fry button mushrooms (sliced) in butter. Salted right at the start. Which will draw moisture. And fry them on low to medium low until they start browning. This should provide aroma and texture. That butter will slightly brown, too (they call it nutbutter).
Maybe try the button mushrooms for the bite and some shiitake powder to boost the flavour?
I think I need to try and make such a cheese sauce (we don't have that stuff, here in Germany). I see a lot of options with that. Like chef John would surely add some cayenne…..
Guga would make 3 versions of that sauce? How about mixing in some chopped chives or chopped shallots at the end?
I agree with you, that's probably why they do lower temp, but at a higher temp you get a better burger, and it cooks faster so they would have fresher food made to order. They should maybe reconsider their burger management, but that's just my opinion. Nothing better than a smash burger in my opinion!
Wendy's doesn't flip burgers anymore, they use the double sided press.

I have a big block of cheddar so going to make my own sauce but I can make it cheap tasting I am sure!! lol Going to throw a little garlic in the butter to make the cheese sauce but my wife loved these things so I am getting on it as we speak!! Thanks for the memories Greg!!!

I worked at Wendy's when i was in high school, and I gained a few lbs eating these Bacon Mushroom Melts. This was also great as a Homestyle Chicken Bacon Mushroom Melt too.
