I wanna get into direct heat grilling since my Traeger burned to shit. Not looking to break the bank whatsoever early on, so I would like to stay under $200 and if I really enjoy it I can invest in something better. Thoughts? Anyone have any recommendations?

I avoid Vevor in general. They aren’t a brand that takes any kind of pride in what they sell. Is this a good grill? Maybe. Is it a good brand? Certainly not.

I am also interested in hearing from someone who bought this thing. It does not look very robust, especially the handles.

Yeah, that’s a no from me dog.

Check out FB marketplace or OfferUp or Craigslist.

Weber is the only kettle I’d f with.

You can get a 22″ Weber kettle for under $200. I’d go for that rather than a knockoff. Happy grilling!

    It will grill and smoke.

Don’t expect it to last too long

EDIT: I don’t know why everyone is recommending a Weber when OP clearly stated that this is intended as an inexpensive starter grill???

No. Weber or SnS (although that one is over your budget)

I had one of these I rescued from a garbage. One of the best grills I ever had.

I would go to FB marketplace or Craigslist and pick up a used Weber for $75 or less and you’ll be good. If you must have the four legged base, then go SnS. It’s a quality kettle.

I think it looks like a good buy. I have Webers now but I started on the cheap Walmart brands and I actually liked the little one more than the smokey Joe I got later because it had two air ports on the bottom half which kept the coals breathing better. This Vevor comes with a bunch of attachments, it’s only $100. It’s for a frat house. All signs point to go for it.

I’m gonna go against the grain. Sometimes you can find an old Brinkmann smoker for cheap. As long as it has two pans you can grill over direct coals AND you can learn how to control a fire while smoking meats. The latter is good for day drinking and playing yard games with your brothers.

The fact that amazon keeps recommending this grill to me and that it’s at least 100 less than the weber tells me it’s a piece of crap

If it was a Weber Kettle for that price I’d be on it. Always good to have one around.

Go with a Weber kettle. I have one, and it’s over 6 years old. I’ve replaced the top grate with an SNS (slow n sear), top grate spins, and added the sns fire basket w/ water pan. Perfect for long cooks. There are so many accessories for Weber made by other companies. You can even add the Spider Venom kit to control temps. Saying all of that, I’ve upgraded my Weber to the Huntsman grill by Spider. I absolutely love this grill.

Weber kettle fits your budget and is highly highly recommended. And will last a long time.

I got the Weber version on sale at BJs for $80 about a year ago with a bundle of grilling tools included. Served me well enough. Not familiar with the brand but I wouldn’t pay $100 for it

You’re going from a Traeger to a knockoff? I can’t believe it! $200 would probably get you a 22” Weber. I have gone with knockoffs before & their quality isn’t worth the $$$ in the long run. I have gone with nothing less than a Weber for the last many years. Also, consider your usage needs: are you needing it to throw on a burger and a dog every now and then or are you going to be having backyard patio parties & hosting family and friends often? Your needs dictate your appliances that will be used. Nothing less than a Weber I’d say. Good luck 👍

I got a used Weber kettle on Marketplace for $50. Keep an eye out. There’s a ton around me on there right now

I’d try it just because it’s a kettle and it doesn’t depend upon the patented tripod of terror.

  19. Would not trust the paint on that thing to not give off toxic fumes, and that is outside of potential quality issues (wobbly legs, wobbly handles, cheaper plastic).

Just like other’s have said, you can’t go wrong with a weber. If you’re really strapped for cash, taking extra time to save up or go used on FB is your best bet. There is also the jumbo joe premium 22” by Weber. Some people may shun this grill since it is much more shallow than a standard kettle. However, my wife got my one years ago and it does very well for me. Jumbo joe 22” is $100 bucks at Walmart if you’re really strapped for cash and NEED the grill now. Otherwise, you’re best bet is used or save up.

You can get a used Weber kettle on Facebook marketplace in your area for like 50 bucks

I purchased a Walmart brand similar to this one for $100. That was 7 years ago, and the darn thing is still kicking!! No rust or holes, left out in the open Texas heat. I’m shocked at how long that thing lasted.

I got one of these for $40 brand new on eBay in a bid. I love it. It’s a runner up to the Weber, but it definitely holds its own. I’d go for it.
