The ingredients alone for this cake cost $65 dollars. It’s 4 layers, 9 inches. If I bought this from a professional baker, how much would it have cost? I’m kind of wondering if it was worth the time and effort of making it myself versus purchasing from a bakery.

I know what you mean, but you did such a personal, amazing job! This is absolutely adorable and ‘out of this world’!🌎

Great cake, nice job! Can you break down the ingredient costs or give us an idea of the recipe ingredients?

It was made with love and it seems your son really appreciated it 🙂 But $65 seems like a lot. Does that include supplies you can now use again, like food dye, sprinkles, or baking ingredients? Because if that’s the case then it really should be broken down by how much of that ingredient you used.

I recently signed up for For Goodness Cakes and I’m excited to do it, but ingredients are expensive right now. I haven’t picked a frosting yet but was looking at an Italian meringue buttercream recipe and was like, four egg whites?!? With the current cost of eggs I’ll use something else 🤣

My gift from my wife every Christmas is homemade pignoli cookies. Talk about expensive. Hers are the best I’ve ever had. So worth it once a year. We host Christmas Day, and she bakes a ton. Dozens of different cookies. Several cakes and pies. I can’t imagine the cost. In fact, I actively avoid hearing how much. Again, once a year, do it up, if you can.

I work at a grocery store bakery so honestly I just take supplies home if I have a cake to do. Like some icing, bags, tips, etc and then bring the items back that are reusable.

But right now everything is sooo expensive so if someone wants a cake, I just recommend they order through the store for my work. That way I get the cakes in, the icing, etc.

About 130 I think is what this subreddit told another person that did the heart shape one (3 layers 8 inches) which is essential the same size and similar amount of buttercreams

I guess my flaw on the cost was opting for 3 different frostings.
Black cocoa chocolate ganache (to reduce black food coloring), buttercream for the crumb coat, characters and color part of the galaxy, and a Oreo whipped cream filling 🤣
