Rooftop at Pelham House Resort a USA TODAY’s best restaurant: Video

Take a look inside Rooftop at Pelham House Resort in Dennis Port, Mass., named one of USA TODAYs best restaurants for 2025.

A beloved restaurant on Nantucket may be closing soon.

A local favorite for over 20 years, Faregrounds Restaurant & Pudley’s Pub has reached an agreement with Braintree real estate developer Brad Cartwright to buy the land that the restaurant is on, with plans to tear it down and build an eight-lot housing subdivision at the location.

According to local paper The Inquirer and Mirror, the Nantucket Planning Board endorsed this preliminary plan on Monday night, but it would need further approval in the future to move forward.

Here’s how to visit the beloved restaurant while it is still open.

About Faregrounds Restaurant & Pudley’s Pub

First opened in 1997 by Bill and Kim Puder, Faregrounds is a Nantucket staple known for its friendly service and affordable American cuisine. The restaurant is made up of the homey Faregrounds dining room and Pudley’s Pub, an accompanying sports bar with over 15 TVs.

Along with its regular menu full of American classics like wings, burgers, sandwiches and seafood dinners, Faregrounds offers daily specials and all-you-can-eat nights, including unlimited dishes such as steak tips and fried fish.

In addition to the many locals and tourists who have visited Faregrounds over the years, the restaurant has been frequented by former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, as well as former President Joe Biden, who ordered his family’s Thanksgiving dinner from Faregrounds for over 20 years. While a private chef cooked for the Biden family in recent years, Faregrounds reportedly provided meals for the former president’s detail.
