Saw some reviews it doesn’t, “smoke” as they would want to. Curious if anyone has tried it, and $250 worth it?

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!

If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!

    *What seasoning did you use?

*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?

*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?

    Traeger on!

Just got the silverton xl at Costco. So far so good!

I love my 620! I did 50 lbs of brisket once for my friend’s wedding reception, which pretty well maxed out the space. I spent $700 at Costco and thought I was getting a deal.

100% worth it. Been using one for a couple of years now

They suck. Had two friends return theirs and get pros

I’ve had one for about three years, does great.

Had mine for almost 5 years now and not a single issue. I will say the probes aren’t good but I use a meater so it really doesn’t matter. The complaints about the lack of smokiness is true, to an extent, but not so bad it isn’t present. When I do briskets or pork butts I’ll use a smoke tube to get more of that Smokey flavor $10 on Amazon. Use foil instead of the liners and make sure you clean it out every 3-5 cooks. Cheap shop vac is the way to go (depending on what and how long obviously factors in on how often too) Bottom line is I have thoroughly enjoyed mine with no issues.

  8. I’ve had one for several years with no issues. Just make sure you clean it regularly.

I have the First Silverton model sold at cost-co, I’ve had it about 7 years. It works excellent.

Heck yes! For only two of us, the 620 is the ideal size.

I have an XL version from Costco, I’m going to return it as it is malfunctioning intermittently. Make sure that it is working properly because unfortunately the quality is hit or miss. Read the negative reviews from the Costco website and all the defects that some people are experiencing, I’m experiencing, but some get lucky and get a good one with no problems.

I’ve only ever owned a Silverton model, but for 10 years it’s been excellent! I upgraded to the 620 a few years ago to get the electronic control. It doesn’t have “super smoke,” but beyond that functions essentially the same as other models except for one big difference – it is the only Traeger I’ve found that has usable storage underneath. That one looks to be in great shape and a deal at $250, so go for it if it’s working.

My parents have had one for years and it’s been great. No issues at all.

Yes buy it. I’ve had one for about 3 years now and it’s a solid unit.

If you’re new to a pellet grill, always cover your drip tray with HD foil. If you don’t, you’ll wind up with a completely trashed drip tray that is a PIA to clean. Replace the foil as needed. Those foil covers they sell are expensive and not worth it IMO. Costco has a 2-roll special that goes on sale with a $4 off coupon. Wait for that deal.

Also, dedicate an inexpensive hand-held vacuum for vacuuming the fire pot. Home Depot sells one that fits on the top of their Orange buckets. Vacuum it out every 3-5 cooks depending on length of time of your cooks. You do not want the ash in the fire pot to get so high that it might ignite the pellets in the auger.

Invest in the best ThermoPen you can afford. And install the Traeger app on your phone, so many recipes! Enjoy your smoker and don’t let it run out of pellets.

YouTube is your friend. Look up Malcom Reed and Matt Pittman and they can help guide you thru the basics with their vids.

$250 is a steal. I just recently bought a used 810 for $300. You have to figure out the wifire if it’s not updated to the newest firmware (it will only connect to certain hotspots until it’s updated) but then it runs like a champ.

I’ve had the Silverton 620 for almost 4 years. Purchased it for $650 at my local Costco. And I use it at least once a week. Only issue I had was the inside temp probe failed. Called traeger and they sent a replacement for free. My drip tray also started to rust (likely normal wear and tear) and I contacted them this past Christmas day to purchase a new one, and was sent a brand new one for free!

I follow r/pelletgrills and man they bash traeger like no other. For me, this girl holds consistent temps, is easy to use and clean, and the wifi app works well. I definitely recommend traeger given the phenomenonal customer service and usability of the grill, and as long as this one works, for $250 you will be getting a great deal.

had one for several years. solid smoker. highly recommend you spend $10 and lava lock the lid though – makes a big difference

I got one used and haven’t had any issues so far. If you want extra smoke during a cook, just get some smoke tubes off Amazon

  19. WowBacon

For that price I’d say go for it! I’ve been a 620 owner for about 4 years now. I love the app controls, ease of use, and think it does do a good job overall. The cons are that there is no super smoke and probe can be inaccurate/ need calibration. I’ve tried sealing the grill with lava lock and adding a smoke tube. It helps but I haven’t been able to get that super smoky flavor of other Traeger models, green egg, etc. I think it’s a great entry level pellet smoker, and at that price point definitely worth it!

I love mine. Got it open box from Costco for half price of new.

  21. glowinthedarkstick

Have one, use it every week, works great. Love it. Two issues in my opinion:

    1) size, you can fit three racks of ribs on the bottom rack. I often find myself wishing I had more surface area.

    2) hot spots, bc it’s small, the hots spots are more annoying. If you’re doing a large cut it’s not a big deal but for small items like wings this is annoying bc you have to shift them around more than I’d like

  22. FreakiestFrank

It’s the exact model I got rid of for a Recteq. It does the job ok I guess. Not great at smoke flavor. I always blamed the pellets for that but using the same pellets in my new smoker and the smoke flavor is night and day better.

  23. darthnugget

I got the XL model and after adding the Lava seal to it, it works great. I also added smoke cannons to them depending on the flavor I am targeting. I also spent $800 on it so $250 is a steal and I would grab it.

  24. Slight_Discipline_63

I have one. Wife bought it as a surprise. I may have bought a recteq instead. But I have had this one for 2 years with no real issue. The only thing I noticed is the wireless doesn’t work that well. You need to be close to it. Buts for 250 I would buy it.

  25. uknowdamrite

Deciding on this as well. Your price is better than what I’m seeing near me.

  26. I have one and love it. I would agree about the amount of smoke. Food still tastes great, though. Good smoke rings and flavor. Worth it. I paid 600 new
