I work at a ramen restaurant (not this one) and it's pretty common for customers to order "tonkatsu" ramen, when they mean "tonkotsu." No problem; people come to eat, not learn, so I never correct them unless they ask. I was passing by a restaurant downtown one day and saw this sign outside. There are some, but not a lot of Japanese-owned Japanese restaurants in my city. Many of the Japanese restaurants are owned and run by non-Japanese people, and that's fine. Everyone's gotta make a living. But if you're gonna serve Japanese food, at least get the fucking name right.

-Tonkatsu=breaded fried pork cutlet (almost never a style of ramen)
-Tonkotsu=pork bone broth (is a style of ramen)

If a ramen place serves any main dish other than ramen. I immediately think they serve crap ramen. Ramen takes so much prep work to get right. No way they are devoting that time to ramen when they serve multiple mains.

Sushi and Ramen at the same shop? Why not just cut Pikachu’s throat and sell the blood in cups?

Maybe there’s tonkatsu in it? Honestly, I hope a restaurant doesn’t get it wrong.

When a reman restaurant serves that many type of soup, pretty sure they just use condensed soup

Seen the same at a ramen place in Germany, probably run by Thai ppl (judging by the other side of the menu), and who knows they might indeed put tonkatsu on there, after having seen pictures of パーコーTantanmen

    Every restaurant serving “hibachi”.

Bonus points for insulting people from Hawaii at the same time with the “poke bowl” options on the menu. At least there isn’t any “wagu-style beef” on there too?

Is it possible to have Tonkatsu pork in a Tonkotsu ramen? It sounds good but I really don’t know.

One time I was at a pretty highly rated ramen joint in NYC. I order the tonkotsu ramen and the waitress confirms “tonkatsu”. 🤷

It’s like saying Chai tea. Your average person isn’t going to know what tonkatsu means

  11. Hard and fast rule: If a place serves ramen AND sushi, neither are gonna be good

I was at a diner that was selling toasted bagels with “Strawberry & Cream chesse or Plain Cream Cheesse” on a printed menu. Some people can’t spell, some people can’t type, and some people can’t spell or type.
