Oelwein fire crews responded Sunday evening to a report of smoke coming from the second floor of The Mealey Apartments in the 100 block of South Frederick Ave., additionally leading to an arrest of an individual.
At around 8 p.m. March 23, three engines responded to the Apartments as residents exited the building and smoke was filtered out by firefighters. According to the police report, officers and firefighters found the source of the fire coming from an unattended meal cooking on the stove from the same apartment/individual as a prior fire alarm report for the same reason.
Officers asked the individual of the apartment to leave and noticed marijuana and drug paraphernalia on the same desk where the individual was located. The items were seized following the fire department deeming the building safe.
Wade Francis Brennan, 66, of Oelwein was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor and Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense – Class D Felony.
Charges are merely an accusation until proven in a court of law.
