Hi there Weber fans! I’ve been looking to get my husband a surprise new grill and was scouring some used ones and came across this genesis 1000. Problem is I am NOT the expert in the house. What questions should I be asking? Or am I making a mistake
going vintage? This looks gorgeous and like they did a lot of resto on it, but frankly I don’t even know if this is actually the score I think it is. Apologies in advance for the novice post 🙏🏻 😭

This is an excellent clean up job they did. I honestly think I saw one on here recently that was identical, wondering if it’s that one. I can’t speak to price on these used maybe someone else can chime in here.
Questions that need to be asked when choosing a grill are typically how big are your get togethers/parties? You don’t want to buy a 2-3 burner if you have pool parties with 20+ people every week. I personally have a 3 burner and it’s more than enough most of the time.
What kind of things would you/he cook out there? Side burners are nice but not for me. This could be a make or break for some people if they like to boil veggies/corn/ or have a secondary cooking surface nearby.
Do you need cooking storage? Some have drawers/cabinets underneath for decent dry storage.
Regardless, I’d definitely stick with webers as they are quality and hold up. Best of luck in your search.
I have that exact grill and it’s awesome. I paid $50 for it in rough shape and spent two weeks of whatever extra time I had restoring it to similar condition to this one. So for maybe $150 total in the grill and parts I feel like I did really well.
For $500 I think you are still getting a nicer grill than $500 gets you in a new production grill, and if pre-restored is your jam then I think this is a great grill that will last another 30 years if taken care of.
Edit: Is your husband a dork about anything? If he’s the kinda guy who GETS INTO things like grilling and old barbeques, then he will love it.
You need to grab that!!
I found a similar one in rough shape last year and rebuilt it. Not quite as nice as this one but i was pleased with the outcome. All new bars grates burners starter and paint. Very clean. Sold for 250 which i figured was half off a new Spirit. This one has wood slat side tables and it’s super clean. It’s sweet. I’d say it’s worth it for the nostalgia factor.
I own quite a few of these old Webers and they definitely fall under the “they don’t make ‘em like them used too” category.
However, I think $550 is too much. Sure it’s less than a new Weber and it will last a long time but even $300 seems tough to accept.
Keep in mind it’s a grill and should be used for grilling. It’s not a classic car that sits in the garage.
Buy the grill but pay less. Good luck
If I didn’t already have the same model restored, id buy that in a heartbeat. Looks brand new.
Beautiful grill, but seems like way too much money for a grill that old.
Well, you’re definitely on the right track with selecting a Webber. You can’t go wrong with a weber grill. Without being said, however, I’m not sure that I would buy used. You could get a new Weber grill three burner for basically this price.
This is a classic grill. He will love it.
I’ve ben looking at used grills for years. The hidden defects quickly become problems. The gas manifold and burners need to be carefully examined. Must say, tho, the owner has done a splendid job of spiffing this up for sale. But there’s no reason to pay them for the work they performed cleaning it up. As others have said, a new 3-burner Weber is not all that much more money. However, current models have burners that run north to south instead of east to west, which can make a difference to you if rotisserie is your preferred slow cooking method.
