Accidentally left it running too long during a cook without checking the pellet level, resulting in a low temp error. Error message says I need to go through the shutdown process — so I try to start the shutdown process and get the message “can’t shutdown when in error state.”
I ended up just turning off the Traeger with the switch, which I know they warn against but seemed the only way to proceed.
Also seems like a bummer that dropping to a low temp can only be fixed by doing a full shutdown/restart instead of just adding more fuel like any other grill/smoker. My understanding is that it has something to do with a flare up risk but taking a 30 minute timeout in the middle of a cook is…less than ideal, even if it is my ADHD to blame for kinda forgetting I was cooking a pork shoulder…
Is there something I’m missing?

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!
If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?
Traeger on!

Have you tried turning it off and back on again
Flip the switch on it or unplug it. I had this issue too and that was all I could do.
Pull the plug, plug it back in and get it going again
The problem with just “adding more fuel” is that you’re likely to have a gap in your auger where there are no pellets. You will need to prime your auger again.
I’ve had a low temp error before but it wasn’t because I ran out of pellets. For some reason the flame was going out about 30 minutes into the cook. I ended up replacing all the pellets and it’s been fine since. I must have gotten a bad batch of pellets or maybe I got some moisture in there.
I had this when I had the temp too low, and it was -25c and windy out. I just unplugged it and cleaned the fire pot out and re started it, but cranked the heat higher. Worked fine

Consider following the written instructions that the grill is giving you, for a start. Good chance you need to clean your grill thoroughly if this is happening. 100% of the time my grill struggles the burner pot is filled with ash or the auger is jammed, or both.
It means to give your grill a good cleaning.
Turn off using switch. Add more pellets. Turn back on. Go into settings and select “prime auger.” Now you can cook as normal.
Unplug it?
Turn off… check the fire pot. That happened to me and it was the heating element that went out. Called traeger support and they send me a new one
Mine did this, and I cleaned it thoroughly and found some gunk had built in the augur. A 10 minute clean revealed that it was choking it so the pellets wouldn’t feed appropriately.
Once done, it’s worked no problem.
This only happens to me when the pot has too much ash.
