Downtown Rescue Mission urgently requests community aid as it combats a critical non-perishable food shortage due to increased demand for services.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Downtown Rescue Mission is asking for immediate help from the community as it faces a critical shortage of non-perishable food items.
The faith-based nonprofit, which provided more than 442,000 meals and nearly 4,000 food boxes in 2024, reports a dramatic rise in demand for services—leaving pantry shelves dangerously low.
Donations can be dropped off daily between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Mission’s facility at 1400 Evangel Drive NW in Huntsville. Online contributions are also accepted here.
The most urgently needed food items include:
Canned meats (tuna, Vienna sausages, SPAM)Boxed macaroni and cheeseRice and dry beansCanned vegetables and soups (pull-top preferred)Pasta and pasta saucePeanut butter and cerealSnacks like chips, cookies, and Pop-Tarts
