This restaurant in Bucktown was amazing. They were so slow and it made me sad because the food was delicious. My son and I were craving authentic khao soi as the last time we had it was in Chiang Mai. It was spot on and so good. Small neighborhood restaurants are such a privilege, I hope we can support them.

I live next to them and I’ve gotta say, its really nothing special. Its alright, not bad at all and not amazing.

  2. I went once and it was the most disappointing and weird experience I’ve had at a restaurant in Chicago.

Cute ambiance, especially at night. I went to order my entree with beef, and the waitress told me they don’t serve beef as a meat in any dishes, even though it’s labeled as such in every menu page in multiple places. I asked if they were out, and she repeated they don’t serve beef in the restaurant. Ok.

The cook came out to ask how our food was when we clearly hadn’t even received it yet. We only had drinks on the table.

The entrees were mediocre with a paltry amount of protein. Maybe three small pieces at most in each entree.

Zero desire to return. I have no idea how they have such good reviews.

I’ve ordered delivery from here a handful of times and had a good experience – not like out of this world but good. Pretty standard but tasted fresher than the average spot (maybe less greasy? idk). This is my favorite spot for basil fried rice now – I get tofu and veggie and the helping of tofu is always great. My partner said their curry was only okay, so maybe not the strong suit.

OP I’m curious what you got and liked!

I could be misguided, but the [Thai Select restaurants](http://www.thaitradechicago.com/thaiselectillinois) generally seem to hold up? Most of the top spots you see recommended here are on it. For wicker/bucktown there is Silom 12 and JJ. Sweet Rice and Thai Lagoon are listed too.

I did find that compared to Opart, Noble, and Gold Ladle that Silom 12 felt better. Havent tried the other three yet though.

Been to Thailand 4 or 5 times, Aroy Thai (family who run it are absolute gems the uncle will come out and shoot the shit with you at the table if they’re not super busy), Andy’s, and JJs in that order for authentic Thai food.

Honorable mention to Opart Thai House they win the bang for your buck category.

    Edit:
Only thing I wish is that somewhere in Chicago had guay tiew nam sai. Most places only serve the blood noodle soup which is good but doesn’t scratch the clear pork bone boat noodle soup served on a plastic table and chair on the side of the road in Bangkok itch
