We love it when an unexpected ingredient gets the viral treatment. From cottage cheese to tinned fish, when the internet gets hold of an ingredient, we take notice. And as the weather warms up, we’ve started seeing another summer-favorite ingredient pop up all over our feeds. Whether it’s with pancakes and yogurt bowls, or coffees and matchas, blueberries are social media’s latest muse.

It doesn’t come as a huge surprise that the berry is having its moment in the sun. After all, it’s peak berry season, and the fruit offers a bright, delightful pop to both sweet and savory dishes. Plus, its gorgeous dark purple color makes for the prettiest presentation.

While we’ve been busy muddling, macerating, simmering, and straining the fruit so we can use it in a variety of ways, McCormick was creating a new product that eliminates the tediousness of cooking with blueberries while preserving its flavor and essence—and we can’t wait to try it. A blueberry latte is definitely first on our list!

McCormick Introduces New Blueberry Extract

Allrecipes / McCormick

Whip out all your favorite blueberry recipes, because McCormick’s new Blueberry Extract may just take them to the next level. Ahead of National Blueberry Day (July 8), McCormick officially announced the launch of the extract—the first specialty extract the brand has created in five years.

Just in time for summer cookouts and potlucks, this extract can be used for so many desserts, sweets, and drinks. Just a drop of extract will heighten compotes, sauces, jams, simple syrups, and other flavor-packed blueberry creations.

While the product was only recently announced, it has been slowly releasing in stores and on online retailers—and the rave reviews keep rolling in.

“I’ve always wanted the taste of the blueberry muffins at the store without the fake blueberry bits,” said an Amazon reviewer. “I put a teaspoon in my blueberry muffin mix before I added a pint of blueberries to it. They tasted perfect! Highly recommend.”

Another reviewer revealed they add the McCormick Blueberry Extract to their smoothies, and it creates a “really nice, natural blueberry flavor without being overpowering.”

Other reviewers have been mixing it into yogurt, coffee, iced tea, lemonade, and more. So go ahead—upgrade your muffins, boost your breakfasts, and make every bite a little more berrylicious. This is one extract we’re more than ready to add to our repertoire.
