SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -For any foodies who want a taste of the Coastal Empire’s finest flavors, the first-ever Hostess City Food and Wine Fest will be coming on November 8th.

The main area for the event will be at The Park at Eastern Wharf located at 101 Port Street, lasting from 3:00-6:00 p.m. with local chefs from places like Savannah’s Common Kitchen.

“Being a native and born and raised in Savannah, seeing something like this going on is invigorating,” said Common Kitchen head chef Sean Freeman.

“Our thing is to make our community a better place to live, so one of the things that we thought of is food and wine fest, and we wanted to make ours different than everyone else,” said Erica Baskin, the Director of Events and Community for Connect Savannah. “A lot of people will bring in different chefs from other cities, we love our chefs and we want everyone to experience them.”

“So we’ll gather our team together, have a couple meetings where we’ll kind of talk about what the vision is and what we want to put forth, and we’ll go from there,” Freeman said.

The event will also be making a donation per ticket sold to Gilliard and Company – led by CEO and founder Whitney Gilliard – to aid in Georgia foster care children who are aging out of the system.

“We absolutely love working with Whitney. We see firsthand what she does for those kids and it’s amazing that they have the support and someone like her that will help them and guide them along the way,” Baskin said.

“To grow up in foster care and be recognized in this way, with our agency and our mission, I can’t put words to explain it but it’s unbelievable, and we’re just really grateful to have this type of recognition,” Gilliard said. “This is something that we want to bring to the limelight of everybody because at the end of the day if you speak to the business owners, to the people around you, they have been impacted by foster care.”
